Purpose: The purpose of Assessment 1 is to measure the following:

Your understanding of how each of the 6 outcomes relates to reading
Your understanding of the differences and similarities between narrative and
expository text
Your use of the vocabulary and comprehension strategies to comprehend and
learn new information
Text: Assessment 1 will be completed using appropriate articles relating to the assigned topic. To
receive full credit on outcomes all articles must be printed and annotated.
Outcomes Tasks
Outcome 1 10 points/ Due:
Completed KWL chart including information you found
about your topic (textbook) and answering all
questions in the W section. Questions are to be
generated before and during reading. The level of
comprehension of your questions must be identified.
L section must document clear answers and identify
where the answers were found. Must be typed.
Outcome 2 10 points/ Due:
P.L.A.N. examine/outline a chapter in a textbook.
Please follow all the steps and procedures discussed in
class when completing this assignment. Headings,
sub-headingsturned into Qs and facts answer the
questions.
Outcome 3 10 points/ Due:
20 vocabulary words applied to a KIM chart.
Vocabulary is to be self-generated from the textbook
chapter.
Outcome 4 10 points/ Due:
Essential Question
State the essential question, share your opinion, and
make reference to articles for support. Must be typed
and a minimum of 250 words.
Outcome 5 10 points/ Due:
Levels of comprehension
Using the featured article, write and answer 4
questions for each level of comprehension. Answer in
complete sentences, and include explanation or back
up for answers.

Grading/Comments

Please be sure that your assignment is reflective of college level work. Work not
meeting college level expectations will be returned ungraded. Please be sure to
submit your work on time so that you many have the option to resubmit if necessary.
