-play Smart Board game to cement understanding of clauses
-add onto this knowledge by providing sentence structure formulas
-view examples of sentences structures; ask students to create own
examples
-play Smart Board game to cement cumulative understanding
-identify different sentence structures in context
-pass out worksheets and divide into groups; groups complete
worksheets to review Smart Board presentation
-students will be graded on attention to presentation and effort via
rubric
-teacher available to answer questions during group work time

-Smart Board; the program, the screen, the projector, and a computer for
the teacher
-Worksheets copied and prepared for distribution; rubric copied and
distributed
-Schools wi-fi must be working for video
Differentiation:
The ADHD students will enjoy the interactive nature of the Smart Board
games. Audio and visual learners will benefit from the video. Those who
like to have their own notes and written work will have a worksheet.
Academically gifted students can display their creativity in making
sentence content exciting.
Teacher Preparation:
The Smart Board presentation must be ready and flawless. Worksheets
must be copied, and rubrics must be ready.
Lesson Procedures:
-Smart Board presentation by instructor
-Video viewing
-2 games completed on Smart Board
-Students write their own examples
-Identify examples in context
-Complete worksheet in groups
Students must view video in class. They must participate in the games,
write the examples, identify the examples on the board, and complete the
worksheet. There is constant feedback student-to-instructor, and the
instructor can loop around the room during the final worksheet group
activity.

The lesson is to promote better writing skills, focusing on sentence


structure variety. Students should be able to form three different types
of grammatically accurate sentences.
21st century skills: collaboration, problem solving, technology
integration
Technology skills: interact with Smart Board, view and critically
analyze video
Instruction: Review the course content before hand; check for any
glitches in Smart Board presentation. Practice the games and the
examples.
Reflection/Revisions: Consider adding more opportunities for students
to interact with the technology. Although maybe two games are too
many? Determine this after class time. Will students understand the
difference between compound and complex sentences, or should this be
emphasized any better?
