Science: The Beautiful Shelf now takes up a whole shelf! We learned the life cycle
of the apple and the pumpkin. We learned about the role of the bee in this cycle
while at Apple Land Station. We learned why (the purpose) each animal was at
Apple Land Station.
We also discussed appropriate dress for the weather and to the situation. We
discussed dressing warm enough and in clothes that each child is able to get into
and out of on their own. Tie up shoes and string gloves are difficult to be
independent with at this age. Tie up boots are even more difficult.
Last week, we lightly discussed volcanoes so to re-ignite the interest, we put
mentos in Diet Coke to demonstrate a volcanic explosion. We didnt get the
reaction we hoped for, so well re-do next week! We put baking soda and vinegar
in a pop bottle and watched the gas inflate a monster and ghost balloon and finally,
we added vinegar, baking soda and food coloring to the belly of the pumpkin and
watched it erupt out the mouth! Ew! But Ah!
In Art: Miss Angenent made haunted houses with the children. They look beautiful
on the classroom windows.
In Music, Drama and Dance: Miss Angenent continues with Musical Lunches and
dance parties. We are learning the words to a rhyming song called Paula the Koala.
We danced to a childrens version of HOT, HOT, Hot for the Hh.
In Mathematics: We continued the 100 days of school.adding fish to our
fishbowl and straws to our collection. We counted by 1,2,5, and 10. We sorted using
various sorting rules and began individual assessments. We began patterning by
naming and then continuing a given pattern.
In Personal and Social Development: We discussed the importance of accepting
responsibility for our own actions. We cant blame others for our behavior.
In Inquiry/Directed Play: Miss Angenent worked with the children to sew hats
for Hh.
