Dear
Parents/Guardians
of
Senior
Supportive
Learning
(SSL)
Students,
Students
registered
in
the
SSL
program
will
be
part
of
the
Google
Apps
for
Education
program
as
outlined
in
the
district
form,
found
in
the
forms
section
on
Parent
Connect.
Additionally,
those
students
registered
to
do
their
English
course
with
me,
will
be
offered
the
opportunity
to
complete
much
of
their
work
online
using
CANVAS
and
Moodle,
which
are
two
popular
Learning
Management
Systems
used
by
many
colleges
and
universities
in
North
America
and
around
the
world.
These
online
platforms
allow
me
to
post
documents,
links
and
a
variety
of
electronic
files
that
I
use
for
instruction
during
class
time
but
would
also
allow
students
to
access
the
information
off
site
should
they
be
away,
or
simply
want
to
review
the
material
on
their
own.
In
addition,
these
platforms
allow
students
to
provide
audio
and
visual
responses
to
selected
assignments,
thereby
providing
them
alternative
methods
to
demonstrate
learning.
In
order
to
use
these
tools
students
will
be
required
to
create
personal
accounts
using
their
Delta
School
District
email
accounts
(e.g.
Jane
Smith
will
be
j.smith@lm.deltasd.bc.ca).
As
a
BC
teacher,
I
am
subject
to
the
BC
Freedom
of
Information
and
Protection
of
Privacy
Act.
In
accordance
with
this
Act,
I
must,
at
all
times,
actively
work
to
protect
the
privacy
of
students
under
my
care.
In
order
to
do
so,
I
will
guide
students
through
the
process
of
setting
up
online
accounts
to
ensure
they
avoid
posting
personal
information
that
could
be
used
to
identify
themselves
or
other
persons.
I
will
also
teach
them
how
to
set
security
settings
to
the
highest
levels
and
understand
what
it
means
to
post
responsibly.
Under
the
Privacy
Act,
written
parental
consent
is
required
for
student
use
of
online
tools.
It
is
important
to
be
aware
that
the
majority
of
Internet-based
tools
are
online
services
hosted
outside
of
Canada.
While
stored
outside
the
country,
information
in
your
childs
accounts
may
be
subject
to
the
laws
of
foreign
jurisdictions,
including,
in
the
United
States,
the
Patriot
Act.
This
letter
of
informed
consent
is
to
ask
permission
for
your
child
to
use
these
online
tools
for
my
class
for
educational
purposes.
This
consent
is
valid
for
the
duration
of
the
time
your
child
remains
in
the
SSL
English
program.
You
may
withdraw
your
consent
in
writing
at
any
time.
I
am
aware
some
parents
and
guardians
may
not
be
comfortable
having
their
daughter
or
sons
content
being
published
online.
If
you
choose
not
to
provide
your
consent
for
your
childs
use
of
Internet-based
tools,
your
child
will
not
be
penalized
in
any
way
and
alternate
activities
will
be
provided,
as
appropriate.
If
you
give
permission
to
have
your
child
use
these
online
tools
for
classroom
work,
please
fill
out
and
return
the
permission
letter
attached.
If
you
have
further
questions
or
concerns,
please
feel
free
to
contact
me

should
you
wish
do
discuss
this
in
more
depth.
Thank
you
for
your
consideration.
Sincerely,
Karen
