Applied Chemistry: a conceptual chemistry course which examines the impact of chemicals from chemical,
industrial and global/historical perspectives

Forensic Science: an applied, interdisciplinary science elective addressing physical and biological evidence as
related to crime and justice

iPad App Development: a one-semester introduction into progamming in Xcode for the iPhone and iPad

Topics in STEM/STEAM: a hands-on introduction to engineering design principles co-created by the science
and math departments

Contemporary Issues in Science: one module elective focused on current scientific issues with a global lens.
Students produced two films focusing on the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone one of which was a public
service announcement that aired on television in southern Sierra Leone in January 2015. (Ebola PSA)

Taught first-ever project-based learning course in the Science Department (Physics with Geometry). Link to exemplars
of recent student work: The Physics of Sports.

Introduced standards-based grading model used in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Physics with Geometry, Physics
with Trigonometry and Algebra II

Developed mission-based learning field trips for the freshman class Co-curriculum experience
Coordinating a group of students in an engineering community service project in partnership with the EPICS program
at Purdue University.
Connected the students to two community partners (Callava, an outdoor education organization, and Team
River Runner, an organization that promotes paddling to wounded veterans as a healing process).

Employed design thinking models to design, prototype, modify, and hopefully construct an all-access dock
for kayak entry to the Potomac River.
