Students have been studying the novel Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, as well as the film and The Tales of Beedle the Bard for two weeks. All
students have read the novel completely and seen the film so have a thorough understanding of the events that take place. Students have been exposed to wide
range of text types including newspapers and magazines.

- Teacher displays task on smartboard and briefly explains
requirements:
- Write a newspaper article for The Daily Prophet
reporting on any event from the novel, except the
break in at Gringotts.
- You may use the novel and a dictionary to assist you.
- Re-read your article focusing on text structure and
descriptive and emotive language. Can you add or
change words to better describe the event and engage
your audience? Also pay attention to the design/layout
of your article. What images will you use?
- Swap articles with someone and edit each other work,
particularly focusing on their text structure and use of
descriptive, figurative and emotive language. Make
suggestions of how they may be able to further
captivate their audience.
- Once your article has been edited, type up your article
using the computers/laptops including the changes
your peer has made.
- Ensure your final version includes an image and has
been created using a newspaper layout.
- Re-read your article again to ensure that it flows
- Teacher may provide students with a template if
desired
- Students who are comfortable with starting may go and begin,
students who are unsure remain behind for some further
instruction and scaffolding.
- If students are struggling to choose an event, teacher may
suggest examples such as to report on a quidditch game,
