CIRCLES

WHAT IS A CIRCLE?
A circle is the locus of
all points equidistant
from a central point.

CENTRE OF A
CIRCLE
The point
equidistant from
the points on the
circle.

RADIUS OF A CIRCLE
Distance from centre of

circle to any point on it.

It is denoted by the letter
r.

CHORD
A Line Segment Within
A Circle That Touches
Two Points On The
Circle.

DIAMETER OF A
CIRCLE
Diameterof acircle is any straight line

segmentthat passes through the

centre of the circle and whose
endpoints lie on the circle.
It can also be defined as the
longestchordof the circle.
Diameter is the double of radius
d = 2r

CIRCUMFERENCE
It is the distance around the

circle
Circumference of a circle =
2r,where =22/7
(3.14159...)

ARC
A

curved line that is part of the

circumference of a circle

SECTOR
A region bounded by two
radii and an arc lying
between the radii.

SEGMENT
A region not containing the
centre, bounded by a chord
and an arc lying between
the chord's endpoints
