Liquid Crystal Displau (LCD) Monitor

Light Emitting Diode (LED) Monitor
Light Projectors

WHAT IS A LCD MONITOR?

LCD Monitor was
a breakthrough in
technology as it
was the first
screen ever to not
use the CRT
technology.
LCD monitor is
the thin monitors
you most
commonly see at
homes.

How does it work?

It has a grid of liquid crystal pixels in it behind
where there is a backlight. Then digital data is
provided to the monitor by the graphics card.
This digital data is converted to a stream of
analogue data by DAC. Then, the monitors
control program electronically scans all the
pixels row-by-row. As it do so, an analogue signal
is given to each pixel. This signal determines
how much light from the backlight of which color
should be allowed to pass through.
A display on the screen might be conisting of a
thousand or a million pixels.

Advantages

Their size
Light weighted so easier to carry
Compact enough to fit to laptops,
mobiles, tablets e.t.c
The signal on the pixel is saved for a
considerable time so the screen doesnt
flicker. Thus, comfortable viewing.

Disadvantages

The image can only be seen from a

narrow range of angles
Can only display a limited amount of
colour and light
If there is a manufacturing fault, it may
leave unlit or partially lit pixels.

LIGHT EMITTING
DIODE
(LED MONITORS)

How it works?

LED monitor is no different than LCD

monitor. The only difference is that it
uses LED light as a backsource while LCD
monitors use CCFL (Cold Cathode
Flourescent Lamp).

CCFLs are known to
give a warm/yellowish
tint
Less brighter than
LED.

Comparision in the display; LCD with a

more yellowish tint and LED has a more
clearer display.

Light Projectors

What is it?

Light projectors use a LCD screen to

display. The only difference is that the
output is shown on a surface, ideally
being a white surface.
These projectors can also display the
output of TV or DVD player on the wall.

Advantages
Can be used with a much larger audience
than with a monitor

Disadvantages

Expensive than monitor

Fragile bulb which can be damaged easily
Not good for audio output

Uses and Applications

Business meetings
To create a home cinema
To telecast a sporting event on a club or a
public place
