Uruguay 1930: First soccer world cup in history.

Uruguay was chosen


to be the host because it had won the Olympics of 1924 and 1928.
Uruguay was also celebrating their first independence centenary.

Italy 1934: after de success of the first world cup in Uruguay, there
were a lot of inscriptions for the world cup. They had to do playoffs,
and 16 nations qualified.

France 1938: The least world cup of the world cups. This world cup
was almost a European tournament. The American nations were
against two cups in a row played in Europe and they make the
decision of not going. Finally only two nations went, Brazil and Cuba.

Brazil 1950: After a twelve yearlong brake because of war, Brazil


hosted the 4th world cup. Thirteen countries qualified for the World
Cup, they divided it into two parts. In the first part, nine teams were
eliminated. The final group stages where played by Uruguay, Brazil,
Sweden and Spain.

England, Spain, Chile, United States, Sweden, Paraguay, Mexico
and Bolivia.

Switzerland 1954: The big surprise, Hungary was playing very good
soccer, admired around the world, it arrived to the final very easy and
very strong, but they loose it against Germany.

Chile 1962: First time Colombias national team goes to a world cup.
Brazil win the World Cup again, it was not an interesting
championship because Brazil was invincible, Pele is injured at the
beginning and Amarildo, his replacement becomes the greatest figure
of the tournament.

West Germany 1974: In this edition of the tournament change the


system of eliminations. And it first appeared the current version of the
FIFA World Cup Trophy. The previous trophy was given to Brazil,
because they win three World Cups in a row.
