Q)Distiguish between producers,consumers & decomposers.

(4)

Producers are organisms that chemically assimilate cabondi oxide & radiant solar energy
to produce rich carbon compounds.Typicaly there are the chlorophyll bearing plants like
algae of pond, trees etc.In certain stagnant lakes rich in hydrogensylphide, these
photosynthetic bacteria may acount fpr 25% of total photosynthesis.Producers also
include chemosynthetic bacteria obtaining energy from oxidising simple organic
compounds.Chemoynthetic bacteria play important role in the movement of mineral
nutrients in ecosystem.Under the anaerobic conditions these chemosynthesizers"rescue"
energy in the form of organic compounds otherwise energy would be lost through storage
in sediments.
Although energy relationships underlie ecological kinships in so many ways but it
is misleading & misrepresentative to term producers in the context of energy.Producers
create carbohydrates & not energy.Producers can be called as autotrophs(self
feeding).Plant's dont feed on animals or insects excluding carnivorous plants like Pitcher
plant,Sun dew etc.
Consumers are organisms whose nutritional needs are met by feeding on other
organisms are also reffered to as heterotrophs which derives it's nutrition directly from
plants & are also referred as primary consumers.Acarnivore is aheterotroph which derives
it's energy from harbivores & are referred toa ssecondary consumers. Some ecosystems
have tertiary consumers ie.,carnivores feeeding on carnivores.
Omnivores are consumers that derive their energy from both plants & harbivores & in
some cases carnivoes(eg.-the national food of thailand is a dish made of dog meat, shark
fins are eaten by the Chinese & it is a dish for the rich there in China).
Decomposers or reducrs are another type of organisms in the ecosystem & chiefly
consists of bacteria & fungi. They consume the food by absorption.Enzymes produced in
their bodies are released into dead orgnisms or plants & then some of the degraded &
digested products are then absorbed. In the teresterial ecosystems bacteria act on animal
tissues & fungi on plant tissues.Decomposers perform an invaluable task of mineralization
of organic mater.their exoenzymes digestive activity, basic elemts bound in protoplasm are
releasd to the environment & are made avaiablefor the reuse for producers & other
organisms. In some aquatic cosystems consumers play an important role in degrading &
digesting organic products.
