This week in FLK..

We welcomed a new cub into the den this week. A

warm welcome to Christeena!

We welcomed Mr. Gowdy to St. Mark as Mr.

Santandrea is away.
For Bring your child to work day, Joshua Angenent and David
Hickey joined the Cub Den and built us an egg carton house!
Thank you, boys! Thank you to all who provided cartons and a
HUGE thank you to Mrs. Seiling who shared her stash with us!
Mrs. Hickey had issues and put Graysens birthday in the wrong
box on the calendar. We will celebrate his birthday on the 18th!
My apologies Graysen.
Thank you to all parents who were able to join us for Interviews!
It was great to touch base! Your support is amazing!
We hibernated!
In Language: We continued with our Jolly Phonics and learned the letter name and
sounds of Mm and Dd. The First Years continued in their Jolly Phonics booklets

while the Second Years added labels and/or sentences to their super heroes,
Multiplying Mike and Danger Man! We continued rhyming, clapping syllables,
identifying beginning sounds, blending consonant vowel consonant words and
identifying letter sounds and names.
We also continued our Surprise Bag Show n Share items. Andrew shared his
Detroit Red Wing Octopus stuffie and Lily shared her Beanie Boo stuffie. Well
done !
We concluded Halloween with some writing and made spider cookies.
We began a unit on Nursery Rhymes which will culminate in the Nursery Rhyme
Olympics at the end of the month.
Gym: We played Halloween related games: Ghost, Witch/Cat Octopus and we ran a
Hibernation Relay and played Beaver Sam.
Religion: We continued to identify and celebrate traces of God in the world
around usespecially on our visit to the park on Wednesday. We marvelled at the
wisdom of God to care for his creatures as we studied how animals prepare for
Winter.
Science: We studied hibernation. We discussed what it is, how to prepare and
which animals do and dont. The finale was to build hibernation dens of our own on
Friday. Thanks to Joe for bringing in some apple seeds and prompting an impromptu
science experiment in hopes that they will sprout!
In Art: We had no formal Art this week.
In Music, Drama and Dance: Miss Angenent continues with Musical Lunches and
dance parties. As Miss Angenent was away on Tuesday, the supply ECE, Miss F was
astounded at a) the children asking for music and b) how quiet they were as they
ate lunch to the instrumental soundtrack of Forrest Gump!
In Mathematics: We continued the 100 days of school.adding fish to our
fishbowl and straws to our collection. We counted by 1,2,5, and 10. We patterned.
We worked on repeating patterns and recognizing them. We began to discover
what is missing from a given pattern.

In Personal and Social Development: As we welcomed Christeena, we discussed

the importance of being a welcoming classroom.
In Inquiry/Directed Play: We used the school drums to practice the d-d-d-d
sound of Dd. Miss Angenent worked with the children to make patterns and a
hibernation sensory play area in the (dry) water table.
