have you heard of or listened to? From this question I wanted to find out which of these indie music artists were most popular among my audience so I could use these artists in my cover line so that way I will draw my readers attention in. From my research I have found that the most popular indie music artists are : The 1975, Jake Bugg, Vance Joy and Sia they all got 80% and more of the votes. These artists are generally the ones which are more frequently in the charts and most popular on social media which suggest that if I want to appeal to a larger audience I should use these artists on my cover lines as they are proven to be popular among more of my audiences.
Q2.) What age group do you think
Indie Pop music appeals to most? From this question I wanted to find out what age specific group that an indie pop magazine would target, as I wanted to know what age specifically I should target when making an indie pop magazine. From my research I found that people mainly believe that the indie pop music genre should target age 15-17 year olds as it received 64% of the votes, however 18+ also got 27% of the votes which
suggests that I should target ages 15-18, meaning that this magazine may not appeal to the younger audiences.
Q3.) What colour scheme would you
associate with an indie music magazine? From asking this question I wanted to get an idea for my planning of the colour scheme of my magazine, as I believe that the colour scheme is eyecatching. From my results I have found that the most popular choice of colour scheme was red and white as it got 45% of the votes, the rest of the answers were balanced and I had another suggestion of Red and black which creates a darker vibe than the red and white would've done. I can refer back to this when I decide what colour scheme I want for my magazine, but from this I have found that Red and white is a popular colour scheme.
Q4.) What appeals to you more Solo
artists or Bands? I asked this question as I wanted to get an idea about what was more preferred a solo artist or a band, as this could help to decide my model, main image, and the cover lines I include on the cover. From my research I have found that band were just a bit more popular but overall roughly the same as Solo artist got 45% and Bands got 54% showing that there wasn't a strong difference in what was preferred, meaning that I can include both solo artists and bands without excluding some of my audience.
Q5.) How often do you listen to indie music
I included this question in my survey as I wanted to find out just how often people listen to indie music as it shows their familiarity with the genre. From my research I found that my audience were frequent listeners of the genre so I know that if I include mainstream artists on my cover then it will attract my audience.
Q6.) What would you prefer for the main
image? A close up ? A medium close up? A mid shot? A long shot? I asked this question so I could refer back to it during the planning stage of my photoshoot for my cover, contents and double page spread. I wanted to see my audience preferences for the image shot as from my first questionnaire I found that the main image is one of the most important aspects on the magazine and cover. From my research I found A mid shot is the preferred choice, however there were 3 votes of a medium close up so this suggest that I should experiment with the different shot types when it comes to actually taking the pictures.
Q7.) What layout would you prefer? Neat
and traditional or busy and quirky? I included this question even though its similar to one of the questions in my previous survey. I included to see whether the fact I had a specific genre of music whether the layout should change accordingly. From my research I found that neat and traditional still dominated but there were more votes for the busy and quirky once my audience had found out the genre which suggests I should experiment with my layout.
Q8.) Which of these indie
magazine have you read/heard of? This question I included to find out more about what magazine was most popular as it would mean my ideas could be influenced by the most well known indie magazine as they are successful for a reason. From my research I found that the Q and NME were the most popular which suggest I need to refer back to my analysis of those magazines when making my own as they are the most successful and well known.
