Math:
This
month,
we
will
focus
on
multiplication.
We
will
be
using
an
alternative
curriculum
to
help
students
really
understand
the
meaning
behind
multiplication.
We
will
start
our
unit
by
analyzing
a
store,
Muffles
Truffles
and
its
products
and
how
we
can
box
them
using
arrays.
This
model
will
align
with
our
Everyday
Math
Unit
5:
Multiplication,
as
students
will
explore
partial
products
as
a
method
for
multiplying.
Students
will
be
learning
about
the
different
properties
of
numbers
(associative,
distributive)
while
multiplying
as
well.
Science/Soc.
St.:
In
Social
Studies,
we
have
been
focusing
on
different
features
of
a
map.
We
used
our
map
skills
to
create
imaginary
islands.
Next,
we
will
be
moving
into
even
more
geography
skills
studying
the
world
and
our
country.
We
will
be
starting
global,
studying
the
continents
and
oceans,
zooming
into
the
countries
of
North
America,
and
then
learning
the
major
landforms
in
the
United
States.
Students
will
then
zoom
in
even
further
to
learn
more
about
the
region
we
live
in
the
Midwest.
They
will
then
break
into
groups
to
learn
about
the
other
regions
of
the
US.
Writing:
Our
next
writing
unit,
Personal
and
Persuasive
Essays,
aligns
well
as
we
transition
into
our
nonfiction
reading
unit.
In
this
unit,
students
will
generate
essays
with
thesis
statements,
gathering
evidence
and
supporting
details
to
help
support
their
claim.
Well
use
a
boxes
and
bullets
organization
method
to
set
up
our
evidence
paragraphs
(thesis
and
reasons).
Students
will
be
very
well
versed
into
coming
up
with
an
idea
and
providing
reasons
and
examples
to
support
their
reasons.
We
apologize
in
advance
for
any
arguments
at
home!
Reading:
We
are
moving
into
our
next
unit
of
study:
Informational
and
Literary
Nonfiction.
In
this
unit,
students
will
read
a
variety
of
nonfiction
texts,
but
reading
a
little
further
beyond
just
the
facts.
Students
will
analyze
nonfiction
text
structures,
looking
at
the
way
the
author
constructed
the
page,
and
understand
the
purpose
for
its
structure.
They
will
then
look
at
narrative
nonfiction
texts,
and
think
about
how
we
can
apply
everything
weve
learned
so
far
about
literature
into
literary
nonfiction.
Toward
the
end
of
the
unit,
the
students
will
be
able
to
put
all
of
their
learning
together
to
help
them
grow
theories
about
what
their
informational
texts
are
suggesting.
Word
Study:
Please

Two
