List of key roles/jobs in the making of the television series "skins"

Writer- The writer usually creates an original story or adapts a story from other sources. The
finished product is called a script
Head Writer- The head writer oversees a writing team on a series
Screenwriter- A screen writer adapts the original script into whats known as a "shooting script"
where each page is the equivalent to one minute of screen time
Story Editor- A story editor will usually work closely with the writer(s) on each episode draft to
make sure that the scripts are suitable for production. This may entail having to give feedback on
the quality of the writers work, making sure good continuity is in place and that it sticks to the
required running time
Researcher- Researchers are responsible for researching everything about the series topic.
Everything from cultural information, historical information and even technical information about
the place, time and people
Location Manager- Sources all the filming locations.
Costume Designer- The costume designer makes all the clothing worn by the actors and
organizes the construction of the garments from colours, fabric and size.
Director- The Director is responsible for making sure that the production is recorded to film. The
director is responsible for camera placement, lighting, sound and props, amongst other things
Production Designer- The production Designer is responsible for the productions visual
appearance and as such is responsible for almost everything that appears on screen
Casting Director- The casting Director casts the actors and is usually one of the first people on
the project
Assistant Producer- The Assistant Producer is usually in charge of the creative content and action
within a programme
Co-Producer- The role of the Co-Producer is to work in a team with other co-producers on certain
production functions
Executive Producer- The Executive Producer typically oversees one or more of the producers
and is responsible for the production financial backing and making sure the production sticks to a
tight budget
Line Producer- The Line Producer is responsible for overseeing the operating costs. Things such
as salaries, production cost and equipment rentals
Segment Producer- The segment Producer produces one or more of the components for a multi
part production.
Supervising Producer- Supervises one or more of the producers under the authority of the
executive producer
Boom Operator- Is part of the sound crew and is responsible for microphone placement
Camera Operator- Is responsible for physically operating a camera, maintaining composition and
camera angle throughout any given scene. Collaborates closely with the director

Cinematographer-Is in charge of the camera crew and is responsible for selecting what cameras
to use, what lenses to use, what filters to use etc etc
Graphics Coordinator-Decides what graphics should be displayed on screen IE: full screen
graphic, half screen graphic and so on
Production Manager-Organizes the technical needs of the production and is responsible for all
financial business relating to the production (arranging accommodation for the crew, hiring all the
correct equipment etc)
Runner-The most junior member of any crew. Fetch and carry responsibilities
Stunt Coordinator-The person coordinates all stunts seen on screen
Director-responsible for the creative look of a production
Composer-Writes and/or organizes the music for a production
Colorist-interprets the productions visual look
Editor-works alongside the director to edit the raw footage into a finished product.
Assistant Editor-Responsible for various editing duties
Sound editor-Responsible for editing the audio, adjusting and fixing the soundtrack
Title sequence editor-Responsible for designing the show name and credits that appear on
screen
