PERSONAL TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Introduction
Teaching, I truly believe, is a spiritual gift from God; it is a calling that cannot, and
should not be ignored. The art of teaching should not be taken lightly; rather it should be
embraced with the utmost honor and respect. It is through teaching that lives are changed, minds
are challenged, and hearts are encouraged. The Lord speaks of the importance of teaching many
times in the scriptures. 1 Timothy 4:12-16 says it best: Let no one despise you for your youth,
but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. Until I come,
devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching. Do not neglect the
gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on
you. Practice these things; immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress. Keep a
close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both
yourself and your hearers" (English Standard Version). When it comes to education, my personal
statement of philosophy is most accurately reflected in this passage of scripture. The Word of
God, along with my own personal experiences, has helped to shape my beliefs on teaching,
learning, instructional strategies, and classroom management.
Teaching
While blessings may come forth as a result of being a teacher, the focus should be
primarily on the academic success of the students being taught. Teaching is an art form that
strives to paint beautiful masterpieces. A teacher's main goal should be to positively impact the
life of a child through discovery and learning. A teacher, and the art of teaching, provides a
gateway to the world of knowledge. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning"

PERSONAL TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Learners
God has placed a longing for knowledge within each individual. Our God is a creator;
therefore, if humans are made in His image, creativity runs through our veins. So God created
man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them"

Classroom Management
Managing a classroom is a vital element to being a successful teacher. While there are
many approaches to this topic, the main thing is respect. Students should not only respect their
teachers, but teachers should show just as much respect to students. Once respect is formed, a
classroom community can be established. It is in this "community" that students feel loved and
cared for by their peers and their teacher. Students are more willing to share and be open when
there is a general expectation of love and respect. Jesus called us to show love to everyone. And
to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love
ones neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices"
