Lesson Plan Phases:
Warm Up
-T greets Ss
T: Hows going/How are you?
Ss: Im good/fine
-T introduces the topic
T: Today, we are going to learn five adjectives for peoples emotions, and I will give you
some sample sentences and definitions. Then, we will do some practice. This is going to
be fun!
-T gives handout1 to Ss, reads the sample sentences and makes faces as emotions.
T: I was so elated (elated face )on my wedding day.
-T points out the target adjectives and leads Ss to pronounce each word. While T leads
Ss to repeat the pronouncation of each word, T should make the same emotional faces
and let Ss follow her.
T: ELATED ()
Ss: Elated ()

Presentation
-T gives handout2 to Ss
-T explains each adjective in details, which contain parts of
speech/meaning/pictures/synonyms.
T: elated means very happy or proud; jubilant; in high spirits, the adverb form is
elatedly and the noun form is elatedness. As you can see in the picture, when you are
elated, you show a happy face (T makes happy face ). The synonyms for elated are
joyful, blithe, cheerful, happy, merry, contented, blissful, satisified.
-If students have question about elated, T should give more demostration and example
sentences.
T: For example--I got a scholarship from UCLA, so my mom was so elated. Or David
was elated when he met the superstarKaty Perry

-T pronounce the five target adjectives again with faces and Ss should be told to follow
her (review)
-Activity
Ss are divided into two groups, A and B
T gives index cards that have the five adjectives to A
A sees the word and acts it to B
B guesses the word through As face, and then B says the word
For example:
A look the card, and it shows elated.
A: (act to B)
B see As face and realize the word is elated
B: (say) elated.
After the first round finished, A and B switch roles.
-T asks Ss to raise hand if they got all the words correct/if they made one mistake.

Production
-T asks Ss to sit in groups of three and discuss the topic one by one
T: Now, lets discuss the first topic: something you can do to make someone elated.
When you discuss in group, I want you give enough details and information. You cannot
say I cook, so my wife is elated, when do you cook? Whats your favourite dish? Why
your husband is elated when you cook? In other words, you need to give enough context
and backgroud about your story, ok?
-After Ss discussed the first topic for two mins, each group shares one story. If no one
voluteers, T picks one S randomly.
T: David, I heard you said a good one. What would you do to make someone elated?
David: (response)

Wrap Up
-T reviews the class content.
T: Tonight, we learned five adjectives, and they are?
Ss: elated, impassioned, irate, dejected, wary.
T: Very good! I want you to review the handouts I gave you and keep using them when
you talk. Thank you!
