CREATING TRUE TYPE FONTS IN COREL DRAW

This assignment will show you how to make True Type Fonts in Corel Draw that you can
use on your own computer.
1. Draw your font so that it fits on one sheet of paper.
2. Scan the image and save it as a grayscale jpg image.
3. Increase the contrast so that the image is pure black and white, no gray.
4. Use mode to turn the image into a bitmap, if its too distorted, use the grayscale
version of the image.

6. Save Trace Result as a CMX file.


7. Open a NEW FILE in CorelDRAW. This file should be 10 inches by 10 inches
square. You can do this in Layout/ Page Setup. Create a folder named after your
font.
8. Open your CMX Trace Result in another file. Restore Down so you can see both
windows at the same time.
9. Convert your scanned CorelDRAW file to Curves (Ctrl Q).
10. Arrange/Ungroup All.
11. Isolate the period and copy it.
12. Well start with a asterix.
Paste the
period, center it in the 10 by 10.

13. Export the image (Ctrl H). Save as type TTF (True Type Font in your folder
fontname The file name fontname SHOULD already be highlighted.
14. If it isnt, just put your
fontname into
the File Name area.
15. In the Options Box type your
font name and uncheck the
Symbol option. Choose Normal
style unless your font is a bold or
italic font anyway.

file?
17. Choose a character from the list in the next
dialog. If this is the first character in a font,
it will be the default for all characters that
are not assigned. You cant change this later
on, so its best to use a simple asterix or
similar neutral character. The characters in
the scroll box are originally gray, but turn
black once assigned.
The Design Size is 720 points.
18. Create the next letter. You may need to
Arrange/Combine to make sure its all one
image. Make sure the letter is black and the
background is white. . If you want you
can edit the file at this point, cleaning up the
image, smoothing jagged areas, etc
19. Assign the character as above. Continue until the font is complete.
Note:
The biggest problem people seem to encounter is making the image fit together without
having extra pieces of the letter floating around. Use Combine to fit all the pieces
together. In some cases you may need to use shaping/weld.
