Tiger P.R.I.D.E (physical education, recreation, inclusion, development and enjoyment)

is an internship created by the Health Exercise and Sport Pedagogy Department in order to
develop the skills of undergraduate students in engaginginimprovingtheirteachingpracticesto
better prepare themselves to become professional educators. As part of the Evaluation Team
(ET) my job helps in aiding my Delivery Team (DT) improve their teaching skills through
producing reflective and analytical evaluations regarding their current lessons. This week Tiger
P.R.I.D.E focused on
Skill Themes (unit 7) . My DT for this unit is Lauren Nakaso who willbe
an instructor for Tiger Pride forthenextfewweeks.ThisweekLaureninstructedtwenty4thand
5th graders in Cleveland Elementary on November 10th and November 12th. During this time
students learned a variety of skills this week that involved the sport Badminton which included
skills such as serving, forehand swing, and a little backhand swing, . In order to learn these
skills effectively students were placed in a activity that gave them an opportunity to practice
thirr skills by focusing on targets or teammates. In order to evaluate this unit effectively this
paper will focus on just two systematic observations that will assist my DT in improving their
skills as an instructor in the futurewhichwillinclude:
TimeAnalysis (TA) and Teacher/Student
Demonstrations.
TimeAnalysis(TA)
For this lesson I used the Time Analysis to analyze Laurens lesson. This analysis will
document how much time Lauren focused on either completing activities, management, and or
instruction during the lesson. Based on the Analysis Lauren class completed 21 minutes of
physical activity, 7 minutes of management, and 2 minutes of instruction. This week therewas
an increase in activity for this unit than last week lesson. Throughoutthisactivitystudentswere
completely active and often times challengingthemselvestoimprovethroughouttheactivity. In
relation to the lesson it went very well. Just a side note for Badmintonforthosewhoarehaving
troublewithperformingtheskillsIthinkitwouldbealittleeasierforthosewhoarestrugglingto

Teacher/StudentDemonstrations

In using the
Teacher/Student Demonstrations
to analyze Laurens demonstrations during
the lesson, I noticed that there could havebemoreofaWholepartWhole(stepbystep). Also,I
believe that the cues for the serve in Badminton werenotpresentinthelessonplan. However,it
was included during her instruction of the lesson. Its important to double check to make sure

that the cues of the skill in the lesson plan are accurate to what will be taught that day to limit
confusion.

Closing

Overall, in viewing the systematic observations Lauren did very well and consistently

keeping her students active and on their toes. Lauren did very well in giving positive feedback
towards her students and giving constructive feedback to improve her students skills during the
activities. There was never a moment when students were not participating orencouragingtheir
classmatestoimprovebeyondtheircapabilities.
