ACCOUNTING I
COURSE SYLLABUS
Accounting is a one-credit course designed to help students
understand the basic principles of the accounting cycle. This course
provides a comprehensive introduction to basic financial
accounting, including analyzing and recording business transactions,
preparing and interpreting financial statements, demonstrating
generally accepted accounting principles, and performing banking
and payroll activities.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS, MATERIALS, AND STUDENT CONDUCT


1. All students are required to bring a three-ring binder, college ruled
paper, and writing utensils with them to class daily. Laptops and tablets are
encouraged as long as they are used responsibly.
2. Students are to follow all classroom rules that are posted both in the
classroom and on the classroom website. If these rules are not followed
appropriate disciplinary action will take place.
3. The Internet will be used frequently in this course. Students are expected
to behave as an ethical digital citizen. If the use of the Internet is abused,
students will face disciplinary action.
4. Food, drinks, candy, and gum are strictly prohibited in the computer lab.
5. If needed, cell phones may be used in place of a tablet or computer for
some activities. However, they are NOT to be used for personal tasks
including social media or personal correspondence. Conducting personal
business during class time is grounds for disciplinary action.
6. Students are not to tamper with another students files under any
circumstances. Students are also not to use another students username
and password. These actions violate the technology policy. Any student in
violation of this policy will receive disciplinary action.

Daily Work and Exams
Amajorityofyourgradeinthiscoursewillcomefromdailyactivities.Itisthe
studentsresponsibilitytomakeupanymissedclassassignments.Failureto
makeupanymissedassignmentswillresultinazero.Therewillbenoextra
creditgiveninthiscourse.Examswillbegivenperiodicallyonconcepts,
principles,andskillslearnedinclass.Eachexamwillbeevaluatedona100
pointscale,unlessotherwisenoted.Someexamswillbeobjectiveinnature,
whileotherswillbecompletedasapplicationsonthecomputer.

financialsforahypotheticalcompany.Theywillalsohavetemplatesforgeneral
ledgers,journals,andallfinancialdocuments.

MembershipintoFBLAisstronglyencouraged,asitservesasabuildingblockfor
leadershipdevelopment,networking,andcareerpreparation.Careerandtechnical
studentorganizationsareintegral,cocurricularcomponentsofeachcareerand
technicaleducationcourse.Theseorganizationsserveasameanstoenhance
classroominstructionwhilehelpingstudentsdevelopleadershipabilities,expand
workplacereadinessskills,andbroadenopportunitiesforpersonaland
professionalgrowth.FBLAduesare$15.00,whichcoversstateandnationaldues.
