I believe the criteria that I went over was spot on to Simple Machines. Everything was very wellconnected to the topic taught. I was able to create a word bank by using vocabulary cards, having the
students read them out loud and tape them onto the board.

Delivery

Do you deliver the

lesson clearly, at a good
rate, volume and speed?
Do you hear yourself
continually saying:
Um? Like? Gonna?
etc

Presentation Week: 11/9-11/13

Grade Level: 2

I feel that I was able to clearly speak at a good rate, volume and speed. I did catch myself saying gonna
quite some time, which that will be something I need to work on and its something that I am becoming
more self-aware of. I feel that my directions were not as clear as I wanted them to be. I need to become
aware of what to expect from children versus thinking they would already know what to do.

Content

-Do you show a deep

understanding and
working knowledge of
the presentation topic or
is more
reading/research needed
on your part?

I felt that I have done plenty of research on this topic before presenting it. At first I didnt even know
what a simple machine was, but now Im fully aware of the different simple machines and how they
work. When doing further research, I was also able to collect answers to some of the questions that I
had.

Experiment

Does your experiment

completely follow the
6E Model by allowing
students to Engage,
Explore, Explain,
Elaborate, and Evaluate
throughout the hands
on activity?

I was able to completely align my lesson to the 6E Model. I was able to engage the students by having a
student try to move the heavy box in the beginning of my lesson. I was also able to engage them by
having them read each definition and posting them on the board. The children were able to explore in a
sense during the experiments. The children were able to explain and elaborate when they went back to
their main groups and talked about their Simple Machine. Finally, evaluate was expressed when the
students went to each group and had to evaluate the simple machine to figure out what the machines
name was.

Engagement

Self/Peer Review

-Does your Inquiry

engage all types of
learners (i.e.
kinesthetic, auditory,
and visual learners?)
-Do your classmates
appear interested and
motivated in your
Inquiry Based Science
Lesson and its
materials?
Were your classmates
peer review
submissions similar to
how well you believed
you did when
presenting your Inquiry
based lesson and
experiment?
Was there something
that your classmates
pointed out, that you
did not know you were
doing, throughout the
lesson?
If delivering the lesson
again, what would you
do differently?
How will you grow
from this experiment?

Presentation Week: 11/9-11/13

Grade Level: 2

My lesson definitely engaged all types of learners. Students were able to see, hear, and touch the
essential points of my lesson. Students were able to both see and read the definition while being able to
see a picture of what the simple machine was and for the auditory the students were able to hear the
student reading the definition.
I felt that the students were really into the experiments. They really didnt seem bored when exploring
how each simple machine worked. I think one part of the experiment that the students really liked was
the homemade pulley. Many students asked me how I made it and how I knew how to make it with the
materials I had.
I felt that the peer review and feedback I received was very helpful. I know to keep in mind for next
time to incorporate the use of more academic language when the students are speaking. I need to be
more specific when it comes to directions. I need to stop expecting the students to know how to do
things already. I enjoyed hearing the feedback I got from students. If I were to deliver this lesson again,
I would definitely explain the directions better. I would be more straightforward and I would also use
the advice I received about having more of a script for the children so they will use the academic
language. The way in which I will grow from this lesson is taking and considering all the feedback I
have received. I will be implementing as much as I could to better my future lessons.
