Classroom Management
Philosophy
Strive to create a safe, enriching, and positive environment for my
students. I want them to be comfortable with me and each other. If my
students are engaged and everyone is kind towards one another, then I
believe that my students will be successful.
Expectations
- Come to class prepared, ready, and willing to listen
- To exhibit respects for self, others, and classroom
- To engage and participate in classroom activities
- To strive to do their best
I will convey expectations by modeling examples, holding students
responsible for their actions, posting reminders around the classroom,
by teaching expectations of appropriate behavior, and by providing
reinforcement.
Pre-School Checklist
- Stock necessary supplies
- Review available student information
- Create a scope and sequence and basic lesson plans
- Decorate and organize the classroom to foster a successful
environment

Hierarchy for Rule Infractions


1. Warning
2. Loss of a token on their reward system
3. Move to an isolated area or island if they are having a bad day
4. Move child to a timeout area
5. Student-teacher timeout conference. Fill out contract: What did I
do, what I could have done, and what will I do next time.

- Expect, teach, and reinforce good behavior

- Visual, verbal, and tactile cues

- Observe students and look for antecedents and triggers.
Intervene immediately after the trigger.

- Walk children through the problem and have them think of a way
to prevent it from happening again.
Correct Discipline Problems
- Zero tolerance- hitting and name calling
- One could model appropriate behaviors
- Reason with the children ex. How would you feel if?
- Social stories- have student help write the story
- Direct teaching of the skill (replacement behaviors)
- Conflict resolution- have a mediator to talk through the problem.

- Intervention plans- follow each students BIP and incorporate
them into the classroom.

Provide a Safe Classroom
- Have a plan in place for emergencies.

Learn proper restraint techniques to safely use in emergency
situations

Do not put fragile or possibly dangerous items in the classroom
where a student could readily access them at all times ex.
Scissors, glass jars, etc.
Treat children with respect and have a clam, cool temper. This
establishes teacher control of the classroom.
