Dear Parent/Carer,
Year 12 AS History South Africa Lecture Day: Wednesday 25th November 2015 Year 12
To accompany your childs A level studies in History and provide stretching experiences for our most
gifted young historians I am pleased to inform you they have been invited to attend a day-trip to a Year
12 AS South Africa Lecture Day at City Temple in Holborn. They will be attending a series of lectures
and discussions about the Dominance of Apartheid between 1948-61, directly linked to their classwork
and the exam specification.
As this event takes place in central London, pupils will be expected to meet Mr Canvin at this
address at 10:45 to be ready for the first event: Holborn Viaduct, London, EC1A 2DE
Pupils will be free to travel home at 15:30 from Holborn.
For more information about the workshops, please take a look at the attached sheet.
Suggestions for travel have also been attached on a separate sheet.
The cost of the trip is 23 per student, however as this is such a relevant and valuable experience for
our pupils the academy will cover the entire cost. Therefore this event will be Free.

The City Temple is 3 minutes walk east from Chancery Lane tube station (closed on Sundays) or 5 minutes walk west from St
Pauls tube station on the Central Line. It is 4 minutes walk south from Farringdon tube station (on the Circle, District and
Hammersmith & City lines) or 6 minutes walk north from Blackfriars (on the Circle and District Lines.)
By Train
The City Temple is 300 metres west from the City Thameslink station (closed on Sundays) with Farringdon or Blackfriars
Thameslink stations as alternatives. Blackfriars is also a main-line railway station. In addition, the City Temple is only a short

Please note: The City Temple does not have any parking facilities of its own
Metered Parking
There is limited, metered parking available in the immediate vicinity on Shoe Lane, Plumtree Court and St Andrew Street.
The meters are free after 6.30pm on weekdays, after 1.30pm on Saturdays and all day Sunday.
Car Parks
The nearest car parks (all NCP) are located opposite Farringdon tube station (Cowcross Street), on Snow Hill (off Holborn
Viaduct) and close to the Old Bailey (Limeburner Lane).
Disabled Parking
There is limited disabled parking on Plum Tree Court, the road directly behind the City Temple, and on St Andrew Street.
