Name of Book: Festival Time! Lighting a Lamp. A Diwali Story.

grade.

Objective(s) of the lesson: To teach the students about different
religions and cultural celebrations. One can talk about the similarities
and differences between other cultural new years celebrations such as
American, Lunar, and Hindu New Year.
Activities:
o String of lights
Made out of paper and string
Children cut out the light pattern and glue them to
the string
Can turn it into a number line, color, or shape pattern
o Rangoli Patterns with colored rice
o Giant outdoor Rangoli pattern making.
Teacher can pre-make the pattern and as a group the
children can color it in with chalk.
o Paper lanterns
o Toilet paper fireworks
o Toilet paper or play dough Diya candles
o Learn a traditional dance
