General Knowledge:

Bachs partitas are a keyboard suite.


Originally written for harpsichord.
Bach wrote 6 French, 6 English and 6 German suites.
6 German suites are known as partitas.
Partitas published from 1726-1731.
Published all six under the title of Clavichord Practice in 1731.
Movements of the partitas are based on dances.
Allemande, courante, sarabande, gigue plus two optional movements.
All movements in binary form.
All movements of same partita in same key.
Partitas have a piece before the allemande, either sinfonia, prelude or
overture.

Partita 2:

Movements: Sinfonia, allemande, courante, sarabande, rondo (rondeaux)


and capriccio.
Composed and published in 1727.

Baroque Era:

Composers: Handel, Vivaldi, Purcell, Telemann, Scarlatti, Pachelbel,


Monteverdi
