will be played in the background
Student Self-Assess: using the Marzano scale the students will self-assess on how well
they think they know the capitals. I will tell them that the goal for them will be to
reach a 3 by the end of the lesson.
I will explain that each state has a capital and this is where the states government
office is located. I will open google maps and show the example of
Florida/Tallahassee. ESE AND ESOL: PROVIDING VISUALS
Then I will explain to them that the U.S. has landmarks. I will ask if they know of any
landmarks. Landmarks are structures that have significant historical, architectural, or
cultural meaning.
Separate students into five groups. Each group will be at each station for about 10
minutes and then rotate to another station. ESE AND ESOL: GROUPS
a.) The groups will pinpoint their locations and the states theyve traveled to by
putting pinpoints on GoogleMaps on the IWB.
b.) At each station there will be a map containing the outlines of the states; with the
cut outs the students made the previous day they will write the capitals on the
states.
c.) At each station there will be artifacts/fakes ESE AND ESOL: PROVIDE
MANIPILATIVE or picture of the specific landmark and the students will take a

selfie with the landmark that they will later place in their folder.
d.) The students will have access to ipads where they will scan a QR code to learn
about the land mark in that particular region. The students must each find a
different fact about their land mark. Some stations may also have books or apps
as a resource. (noted in resources)
e.) The students will draw the landmarks on the select state that contains the
landmark they are learning about. ESE AND ESOL: VISUAL
f.) They will then label the region with the states and capitals.
