Assistive Technology
Assistive technology is technology that gives materials used for disabled kids as a source
to use for their everyday work and activities. A piece of assistive technology used with disabled
students is a talking calculator that allows the disabled children to listen and understand the
numbers that are on the calculator. It also help mostly with visually impaired and learning
disabled children. Children with these special needs can benefit from this also because it operates
the keys for the student so all that they have to do is listen and understand the information the
calculator is putting in. The talking calculator also teaches the students what equations and
problem going into the calculator is. This technological device would be used in a special
classroom where most if not all the students are visually impaired with learning disabilities. This
devices is not hard to use and could be easily portable. The talking calculator is used as an
advanced way to use mathematical functions and operations. The cost for a talking calculator is
15 to 30 dollars depending on how advanced the calculator is. The teacher training involved
with this device is specializing in teaching visually impaired and learning disabled students.
They have to learn how to have understand and self determination to train these students under
their conditions. I have had no experience with the talking calculator but if I did have one I
would use it to help me with complicated mathematical equation and that will allow me to

understand how to do the equation. I anticipate on using this device to help me better understand
mathematical equations when they are hard to work out and understand.
