Q1.

How many class sizes are created in the

output?
9 Classes are created
Q2:Read the ArcGIS Help on the Iso Cluster
Unsupervised Classification routine and then
provide definitions for the following terms:
minimum class size; sample interval.
Minimum class size should be 10x larger than the
sample size.
Sample interval means on cell out of every nxn block
is used in cluster calculations
Q3:What is the recommended minimum class
size?
The recommended minimum class size class should
be 10x larger than the number of layers.
Q4:How many bands are considered when
running the Iso Cluster Unsupervised
Classification method?
All bands associated with the data set will be
considered in the iso-cluster- unsupervised
classification.
Q5:Provide a list of land cover types assigned
to the isocluster10.imgfile.
1. River_Wat
2. Roads_Paths
3. AG_Grass
4. DirtRd_Trail

5. Soil
6. Highway
7. Field
8. Pupl_Soil(fertile soil areas)
9. BrownSoil
Q6:Briefly summarize the observations
discovered when assigning the spectral classes
to the informationclasses.
I found you have to be very careful in your labeling of
your classes and analyze the color schemes that are
visible in the image. Otherwise if you move to fast
and dont take your time to recognize the color areas
will become overlapped and cannot easily be
identified in the image.
Q7:Briefly describe your observations of
assigning land cover types to the spectral
classes.
I think that using the 15 class separation you are
able break the image down into further detail . I
personally liked working with the 15 class vs. the 10
class image. Although in this particular image you
have to be careful be cause the classes are very
similar. I can see how they could be apart of the
same class as seen in the 10 class image.
Q8:Compare the two image classification
results (after the land cover types have been
assigned). Assign useful colors to each
classified image and provide screenshots of
each of your colorized.

The screen shots are provided on the page. I

personally think when looking at these images the 15
class separation is better for this image. You can
more easily identify smaller pieces of the land in the
image, I also notice that sidewalks and buildings are
more noticeable because of better color separation.

Reflect on the following and write a 250 word response: How

could this technology be used to understand how land cover
has changed in urbanized areas. How could this monitor urban
sprawl and/or help with more intentional, planned
development?
