Philosophy of Education
A well-known proverb states that my people perish for a lack of knowledge. The ability to
gain knowledge, wisdom and understanding is a gift that we all have, it is to be expanded
upon, cultivated and continual. Education and learning occurs all around us both with and
without intention. The ability to educate and be educated occurs at varying degrees and
capacities. However, at the core of it all is the curiosity of the individual-learner and the
environment which theyre in that cultivates their learning.

My intention is to empower

others to discover the unknowns by their curiosities and grow in knowledge as they embark
on the journey of lifelong learning.
Philosophy of Leadership
Leadership occurs with or without a designated title. The position that one takes that inspires
or motivates others to follow, is a leader. True leaders are the greatest servant in an
organization, school district, campus, classroom, household or family. They are committed to
the vision, the people and the purpose. The making of a leader is built upon several
premises. They have certain character traits, behavioral patterns and mindsets that are
utilized, consistently placing them at the cuff of movement and progression. These skill-sets
and traits are housed in an area that I call their Mental tool-kits. Leaders embody the
ability to empower, inspire and be the visionary of a cause greater than themselves,
communities or interest. They have the eye to rally support, identify resources, and partner
with like-minded individuals to work collaboratively towards set goals. Their strengths allow
them to find a common ground with all men to mobilize efforts and progress. The ultimate
goal of leadership should be to transform individuals into their best possible self, drawing out
the gifts, talents and strengths of those who follow so that they too will be inspired to lead.
Vision for Learners
My vision for learners is utilizing the practices of whole brain teaching and engaging the
whole child in the learning process. The more senses involved during learning, the more
likely the learner will receive and process information by using multiple senses to learn.
Learners will find it easier to match new information to their existing knowledge and
therefore make connections necessary for the retrieval.

A neurologist turned classroom

teacher showed that the most effective learning takes place when students are engaged in
the material and when they aren't under stress. Thereby enabling learned information to be
stored in the long-term memory bank (Willis, 2007). The purpose of learning is to gain
knowledge and relevant information necessary for life and livelihood. Learners should be

given the access via the environment created by the school leadership to cultivate and grow
their skills in every capacity. Every child is warranted an opportunity to learn, and every
child regardless of the circumstance, is a learner. It is the responsibility of the principal and
teacher to provide each child with a supportive, student-centered learning environment that
engages the whole child.
Vision for Teachers
In urban/low-income communities, students are often far behind their peers who are in more
affluent communities. Many will not finish high school and virtually none will have the option
of attending a four-year college. Therefore, it is pertinent that teachers take the stance of
leadership to empower, equip and educate all students who come under their leadership.
Teachers are leaders, is my vision.
Teachers are to set high expectations for student achievement, fully invest in their
students and families, plan purposefully to reach student goals and be intentional and
strategic in whatever they do in their classroom. Effective teachers, show students that if
they work hard enough, they can and will achieve their goals. They help students believe in
their own abilities. They maintain high expectations for their students, and assist their
students in developing a desire to pursue goals that are important to them. The teacher
leader makes sure that all of their actions contribute to the goal of student learning. They
continually monitor student progress and are flexible in their approach. They offer students
consistent and caring leadership.
Teacher leaders will use data to diagnose issues and improve their teaching so that students
make the most efficient progress. As in all leaders they are purposeful and do not allow
inevitable challenges to become roadblocks. They work deliberately to overcome setbacks
so that their students can succeed. Teachers are at the heart of the child's learning system.
They are supporters, encouragers, and facilitators of learning, but most of all they are
leaders.
Vision for the Organization
The organization should be a place that grooms children to be lifelong learners. It should be
a place where teachers are empowered to lead and have an active role in the decisionmaking process. The organizational system should have a culture where

parents are

involved in their child's education, and the school is seen as a vital part of their community.
The organization is a collective group of stakeholders working together for a common cause,
Educating and empowering our young people.

Method of Vision Attainment

A principal as the visionary should not attempt to undertake the mission of creating a firstrate educational community on his or her own. He or she must engage the involvement of
the community by cultivating strategic relationships with parents, business leaders and
relevant stakeholders. He or she must also populate the establishment with well-qualified
staff and teachers who are effective and innovative, as well as part ways with those who fail
to meet the high expectations of the organization.

The principal must perform several

functions to materialize the vision of the organization such as plan, organize, facilitate,
budget, report and last but not least, lead. When key players are in place and there is unity
in the vision and a well- articulated & written plan the organization is positioned for success
the type of success that cultivates an environment for the education of all students to be
realized.
