Racism

Being part of a particular race means to have similar physical traits to that group. Really, being born with a
different skin color is not something that defines you as a better person or gives you different skills or capacities.
The truth is that the color of our skin is just that, a color, and race is just a denomination given by us. However, this
trait is divided into minorities and majorities. These separations can create social barriers that limit interaction with
other races within an area. This is where racism comes in.
Racism, the discrimination based on a persons or groups race, has brought violence, unfairness, and social
boundaries that do not let us grow as a unified country. Today, this issue is not as prevalent as in the past, however, it
is still relevant to these days in a more subtle form (Craig, 2012). There is not so many violence related to race
today, and people often that being racist in 2015 means to throw a slur or beating someone else due to skin color.
This is a misinterpretation of the word racism, really, modern racism counts as ridiculizing, ignoring or treating
someone differently. This is why victims of racism often decide not to make an issue of what really is an issue,
because no one takes it that serious.
We the millennials have knowledge of this issue, and most of us want to contribute to it, however, we deny
to talk it out. (March R., 2014). We believe that having a coherent conversation can define the difference between
racist and non-racist, the problem is the shame to do it, and meanwhile, when we see an act of discrimination, our
sub consciousness decides not to act.
The people of the United States need to realize that we are all one race, the human race, and that our skin
color does not has anything to do with what we can do or how it defines us as a human being. We need to change our
perspective of social interaction, to take out those stereotypical and racist barriers to have a more unified and
versatile country, one that realizes and makes awareness of this issue, because a population that knows what is going
on, but decides to leave it in silence, is one that is worse than the problem because of the decision of not acting
against a common threat. Creating conscience on people and talking problems out gives a recognizable view of the
problem, which leads to a contribution to end important issues as racism.
