empty egg cartons
(dozen size)
We hope to do a Buddy Activity that requires each
child to have a wooden Clementine box.we have 4.
Please send in any that you acquire.
In Language: We continued with our Jolly Phonics and learned the letter name and
sounds of Ff and Bb. The First Years continued in their Jolly Phonics booklets
while the Second Years added labels and/or sentences to their super heroes,
Firefly Girl and Bubble Boy.
Using the Mystery Name, we continued rhyming, clapping syllables, identifying
beginning and end sounds, blending consonant vowel consonant words and
identifying letter sounds and names. Our Mystery names this week were Cienna and
Bennett. The soft C and the i and e in Cienna gave us LOTS to talk about!
The WRITING EXPLOSION joined with the rhyming focus and took a twist this
week. We practiced the Nursery Rhymes: Hey Diddle Diddle, Jack Be Nimble concentrating on rhyme. We concluded our Nursery Rhyme unit with Little Bo Peep
and hiding a small, plastic sheep in the class which the children had to locate by
following hot or cold clues. Joe and Molly then worked with Miss Angenent to
make a poem about a Minion so I would hide it. The result:
Once there was a Minion
That Mrs. Hickey hid.
She hid it so well
That she fooled every kid!

They had to look up

They had to look down
They couldnt find anything
On the ground!
So.I had to hide the Minion!
Then Molly and Lily worked with Miss Angenent:
There was a dog
That had a log
That Mrs. Hickey hid.
maybe by a lid?
She is so sneaky
She might be freaky
She is so nice
She might go on the ice!
Soooo.I hid Mollys dog too!
We were excited by these poems because the kids were motivated, engaged and
driving the curriculum! As it SHOULD be! ( despite Freaky!)
We met Lips the Fish. Lips helps us to read. He reminds us to get our lips ready to
use our Jolly Phonics sounds. We also met Eagle Eye, who also helps us to read. He
reminds us to look for clues in pictures to help us read unfamiliar words.
We also continued our Surprise Bag Show n Share items. Sophia F shared her
Beanie Boo Unicorn, Wishful, and Joshua G shared his blankie. Well done !

Gym: We celebrated the Nursery Rhyme Olympics! We reached for stars as in

twinkle, Twinkle, batted sheep balloons for Mary had a Little Lamb, put Humpty
Dumpty puzzles together again, ran an egg/spoon relay for Humpty and Hey Diddle
Diddle and had a jumping relay over candles for Jack be Nimble. Awesome!
Religion: We tied the Nursery Rhymes into religion and talked about sheep. We
watched the story of The Lost Sheep. We talked about God as our shepherd and us
as the sheep. How wonderful to be sooo loved! Madame Santos followed up with
this and worked with the children to make cotton swab sheep.
We also began our Advent celebrations. Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent. We
discussed what the children will see at church in terms of the Advent Wreath.
Science: It SNOWED! We discussed snow and read a Winnie the Pooh book about
Winter. Then it rained! So we talked about when it will be snow and when it will be
rain.
Again, we tied into the Nursery rhymes ( Little Miss Muffet) and made butter out
of whipping cream.
In Art: Miss Angenent worked with the children to make Advent Wreaths.
In Music, Drama and Dance: Miss Angenent continues with Musical Lunches and
dance parties.
In Mathematics: We continued the 100 days of school.adding fish to our
fishbowl and straws to our collection. We counted by 1,2,5, and 10. We began using
5 frames to recognize different ways to get 5. ( 0 and 5, 1 and 4, 2 and 3, 3 and 2,
4 and 1 and 5 and 0)
We began measurement. We discussed length and how to measure using non
standard units of measure.
In Personal and Social Development: We worked on being kind and making good
choices. The full moon DOES affect a Kindergarten class! Some of us were not
making good use of the unstructured play time. We werent thinking before we
acted. We discussed
In Inquiry/Directed Play: For the Ff, Miss Angenent had to children make clown
fish. To provide the needed structure during centre time this week, she worked

with the children on a Baa baa black sheep game, felt boards and poems! She
helped some to make masks and facilitated other individual art projects.
We had a Roots of Empathy visit from Ms Krug. With the children, she discussed
the concept of always having enough love to share.

Each child is asked to provide a 5 by 5 (or thereabouts!) piece of
