cell phones, ipods, etc. allowed in the classroom- they are to be stored in their
locker).
Explanation of Class Procedures (and how they will be taught and reinforced):
4. INTERVENTION PLAN
Strategies for Responding to Misbehavior:
1. Move towards student (if not on podium) or make eye contact.
2. Talk to the individual one on one about the issue.
3. Talk to the whole class if they are all becoming distracted.
4. If the problem is not being solved I will contact the parents of the student.
5. In an extreme case, have a conference with the parents as well.
Justification/Explanation of Strategies:
At first when a student (or multiple students) begins to misbehave and are
not following the class expectations, a look or stating their name can diffuse
the situation. This way without humiliating them in the class they can
understand they need to focus and follow the expectations.
If this does not work and it is only one student misbehaving ask to meet with
them after class for a quick one on one discussion.
If things persist in class I would stop what we are working on and restate my
expectations, saying that what is happening is unacceptable. After the class
discussion we would resume what we were working on.
If I feel that the problem is something I have little experience in and am
unsure how to go about it I would talk to my TA for advice, and eventually sit
down with the student as well. By this point I would email, or contact the
parents by other means to discuss the situation and what could be done.
If nothing were getting solved I would then ask to have a conference with the
student, their parents and my TA. We could discuss strategies that may help
the student and keep in touch about how he/she is doing.
Relation of Strategies to School Policies and Procedures:
Addressing the student in class, and if not solved asking them to wait after
class or come in at lunch to talk.
The school handles the behavior by asking the student if they feel that was
appropriate, and continuing the conversation on from that point.
