Coarse Aggregates

Aggregates , more than 4.75 mm in size.

The materials which retained on BIS test sieve no.480 is termed as a coarse aggregate.
The broken stone is generally used as a coarse aggregate. For thin slabs and walls, the
maximum size of coarse aggregate should be limited to one-third of the thickness of
concrete section.
Coarse aggregates containing flat,
elongated or flaky pieces or mica should be rejected. The grading
of coarse aggregates should be as per specification of IS-383.
