I remember reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. It was eye opening and profound, yet
enjoyable and relatable. I liked the setting, not only because it was in New York City, but simply
the way the Brooklyn neighborhood was described. I thought about this novel when I visited
NYC this summer. Though I was in Manhattan, not Brooklyn, I kept imagining where Francie
would live and play, and what her day would be like. Would she see the homeless in the street
and listen to the saxophone at night like I did?
I remember writing about my NYC experience in my summer journal. I was only there
for three days, two full ones technically, but I enjoyed every minute. I wrote about how my heart
was fluttering at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I tried my best to portray how I sang while
riding a bike through Upper East Side. I dont know if I did these experiences justice, but I
recorded them so I could remember.

This entry demonstrates creative thinking because I connected an experience of mine to a book
that I read. I imagined scenes from the book playing out in front of me and I experienced NYC.
This entry also demonstrates creativity through the way its written. I asked questions and used
imagery in my description of New York and my journal.
