we classify animals?

Performance Expectation(s):
Students who demonstrate understanding can:
o Classify organisms can be classified on the basis of observable
characteristics. Students will sort/classify different living things
using similar and different characteristics.
o Describe why organisms belong to each group or cite evidence
about how they are alike or not alike

Specific Learning Outcomes:

Understand the classification system, the largest group and the


smallest group.
Understand how to develop and use a dichotomous key to classify
plants and animals.
Understand that animals can be classified based on characteristics.

Narrative / Background Information


Prior Student Knowledge:

Learners have a background about the lesson from a previous lessons.


The previous lesson was focusing on the identify the dichotomous key .
The teacher will link that lesson with this lesson. That will helps learner
to identify lessons and link their information .

Possible Preconceptions/Misconceptions:
Some students may have a difficulty with understanding
the new concepts ( language difficulties ) . That lead to
have a misconception around the class. In addition,

some students have some difficulties with getting the


instruction. That make them asking to repeat the
questions many time which start a misbehavior around
the class.

Questions:
Teacher will start the lesson with have a dissection with the
learner about the previous lesson. Lets review about previous
lesson. what is dichotomous key? Who will write dichotomous
key on the board? Who will define what dichotomous key
mean? Could one dichotomous key identify all organism?

Probing or
- Each group will have a punch of items.
- Use a dichotomous key to classify them. students are free to
classify them on their categories.

EXPLAIN: Concepts Explained and Vocabulary


Defined:
Each group will present their work ( classification) for
the whole classroom . The teacher will correct them if it
needed.

ELABORATE: Applications and Extensions:


While the students will present their classification. The
teacher will give them a new and more categories.

EVALUATE:
Formative Monitoring (Questioning / Discussion):
In peer teacher will give each students one item and
they have to ask other question by use dichotomous key
methods. After they finish they have to swich.
