Lessons Learned: JOURNALING - Reflection on Purpose and Objectives

Throughout the co-op, lessons are learned and opportunities for improvement are discovered. As part of a
continuous improvement process, documenting lessons learned will help the progression of your co-op and
the project/s on which you are working.
Lessons Learned (questions to think about)

What worked well and/or didnt work well either for this project/co-op or for your project team?

What could or should be done differently?

What surprises did you discover and how did you manage them?

What co-op circumstances and/or challenges were not anticipated?

What co-op goals and/or objectives were attained this week (refer to your Final Co-op Plan)?

Note: The questions above can be used to guide your reflection and help you in identifying key learning points.
Your journal should be personalized to highlight your co-op experience. Other prompts are provided in your
syllabus.

What worked well and/or didnt work well either for this project/co-op or for your project team?
This is the first week of the quarter, with the admission of the new students brings new challenges.
This is the perfect time to start my project, the title of my action research project is Say Yes to Library
Resources and Say No to Google. Starting with the new students will provide an authentic result for
my research. So far I have visited few classrooms last week, which was the first week of school. It
works better to visit classrooms the first few weeks of school rather than in the middle of the quarter.
I am able to test the students information literacy standard and understand how to help the students
and the faculty better.
What could or should be done differently?
In other for a project like this to work effectively, I need to be able to collaborate with the faculty
members. Working with them on this project is very instrumental. One the things I did differently
this time around is planning ahead of time; I did this by involving all the faculties. At the end of the
last quarter, I emailed all the faculties with a survey, using survey monkey to test their knowledge in

information literacy standards and skills and they are incorporating these standards in their
classrooms. Going forward, one of the major things I wish I had done differently is surveyed the
students and the faculty first. Doing these this quarter will help me create a better and resources for
the students. I another thing I wish I had done differently was incorporating time management and
effective planning ahead.
What surprises did you discover and how did you manage them?
One of the things that surprise me the most is the lack of knowledge of the library resources from the
professors especially the new professors. They didnt realized the amount of library resources, course
guides and assignment guides created for students. Another aspect that surprised me was the lack
knowledge from the students, the new students are far behind in doing college level research.
What co-op circumstances and/or challenges were not anticipated?
Lack of knowledge in college level research and knowing how to use information literacy standards.
Familiarity of the library. Students are not aware of the amount of free resources available to them in
the library. Lack of embedded librarians in the classrooms especially for freshmen students. Students
are still using Google for research and to write a college level paper. The students lack citation
knowledge and plagiarism skills. Older students have limited technologies skills.
What co-op goals and/or objectives were attained this week (refer to your Final Co-op Plan)?
In this week, Using Survey Monkey to collect data from all the faculty member through email. This
survey only focus on the facultys familiarity with Information Literacy standards and framework.
The results will help me understand the next approach on how to collaborate and work with the each
professor in creating the best tools using the syllabus and following the assignment throughout the
semester. I was also able to send a library orientation invite via email to all the faculty members
inviting them to come to the library for new faculty orientation. I have been invited to five classes to
teach information literacy and this is the second week of school. I hope to get more invite in the next
few weeks.
