Assessment Tasks
Formal: A work sheet will be handed out to complete in class. This worksheet allows the children
to match the picture that starts with A such as apple to the letter A in the middle of the
worksheet.

Informal: In class students will uses the same pictures from the worksheet to match the correct picture of things that
start with the letter A. Using a smart board students can take turns coming up and trying to match the correct one. Also
students will try to choose which the upper and lower case.

Procedures and Content

T: Will introduce the letter A and it how it sounds
S: Will listen and repeat the letter A sound
T: Will introduce the capital letter A. Explain what it is used for. Next introduce the lower case a and explain what and when it
is used.
S: Will help come up with examples of when to use the capital and lower case letter A. (Example at the beginning of a
sentence for the capital letter)

T: Will introduce words along with pictures that start with the letter A.
S: Will look at each picture will small groups and go which ones start will letter A.
T: Will then invite students up to the smart board to completely the informal assessment of matching pictures to the letter A.
S: Will take turns at the smartboard completing the informal assessment.
T: When the activity is finished the formal assessment will be handed out
S: they will complete the formal assessment.
