Goals

For students to gain knowledge about Earths oceans and


understand the importance of oceans and the creatures that
inhabit them.

Content Questions

How do oceans affect different communities economies?


What different animals live in oceans?

Unit Summary

In this unit, students will learn various ocean animals and the environments in which they live.
Students will also explore the geographical location of the oceans, and how oceans create
jobs around the world. The subject areas of oceans will be explored through the use of
independent and small group activities, as well as independent writing. Curriculum will be
supplemented by integrating technology into the lesson plans through how the teacher
presents the material, as well as how the students show they understand the material they
have learned.

Students will research different jobs that the ocean provides to communities and how
the oceans benefit these communities economies, and the students will summarize
what they have learned by creating a PowerPoint presentation.
English Language Arts Objectives:
Students will read a story on Blue Whales in the Southern Ocean, then summarize key
terms by creating a Microsoft PowerPoint using Kid Pix pictures.
Science Objectives:
Students will be able to define what an ocean is and also name and locate Earths
major oceans
Students will use research to name different marine animals and list some of their
characteristics
