Who is the audience within this discourse community?
The audience would be the professors/instructors and students involved in
the same field of study. In this case, the field of forensic science and the
students that are involved in this field.
What are the purposes for writing in the discourse community?
The purposes of writing in the discourse community, is to get your ideas
involved within the community. This way other students/ professors are
able to give you insight on your thoughts. Also, you are able to see and
give insight to what other members in your discourse community think
about a certain topic.
What topics are written about in this discourse community?
The topics that are written of in this particular discourse community
obviously have to be the same. In this field of study, the topics that are
discussed through writing, are about the physical sciences, inquiries in
mathematics, law enforcement and criminology.
What are the conventions (guidelines and/or rules) of the discourse
community?
In this field of study, there are many rules one must follow in order to
succeed in this discourse community. Those rules include a GPA of 2.5 4.0 in all courses and 121 credit hours are needed in order to graduate.
Internships are not mandatory but aid in finding jobs. As a member in this
discourse community, compliance with these guidelines/rules are an
essential facet in the success of this field of study.
What specialized language is used? Why? Provide examples.
This discourse community differs from others in the sense that there is no
specialized language. You play with the cards you are dealt with This
means that upon graduating wherever this field of study takes you, on
must learn (if not known already) the language used in that particular
place (city/country). For example, if I were to get a job as a DNA analyst in
France, I would have to learn the language spoken in that particular area
(French).
