Gender is changing in Todays World
Are man and women equal? Are women able to do a man job? Are you having people
conclude that you are not able to do anything or be you? Well a main idea I saw after reading
these articles about gender and sex, I felt that we really judge people sexuality and equal rights
for men and women. In Judith Lorber, in her article Night to His Day: The Social
Construction of Gender, Lorber explains that gender is changing and more women are
becoming more masculine by being a leader or man being a feminine by taking care of children.
In the article Rethinking Womens Biology by Ruth Hubbard, argues that thoughts about
women abilities so that our community can be aware that women can also do more things then
what they think women can do. The writers are writing about this idea because we make
opinions of people by their physical appearance instead of meeting and understanding who that
person is, or we mistaken the identities of people because we assume that how they dress, walk,
and talk are the factors who they prefer to be. Society judges by the performance of people by
gender, sex and the performance of that person.
Women are increasingly changing their role from stay home mom to joining military,
women are expanding their education and judge in physical appearance. For example, some
physical appearance is strength, tallness, skin color and etc. Women performance are criticized in
education and we just conceived, no one suggested that men are just walking testicles, but again
and again women have been looked on as though they were walking ovaries and wombs

(Hubbard pg. 46). Many years ago women were known to stay home and care for their family
and men go to work and pay the bills. I believe more women are getting involved in many manly
jobs because women get picked on that we cannot do any man jobs, so we are changing people's
assumptions and proving them wrong. Ruth Hubbard in her article Rethinking Women Biology
mentioned Differences, be the biological or psychological, become scientifically interesting
only when they parallel difference in power (Hubbard 51). Women are changing or expanding
the opinions of other people that women are not eligible to do certain things as men.
Around the world gender is changing and it can cause many people to make a conclusion
of a person's identity because what we see, we admittedly make a conclusion. Many items like
cloth, toys are changing and we can not tell if its for one or more genders. Some features people
label someone else is cloth, voice, social groups by what people hang out, and toys. Lorber
explained that one day she was on the train and saw two babies and tried to identify was the
gender of the babies because one was wearing a white crocheted cap and white cloths and blue tshirt and the father put on a Yankees Hat. She assumes it was a boy, but when the bay turn it
was a girl by the earring. Societies vary in the people's extent to which they use one or the other
of these ways of allocating people to work and to carry out other responsibilities, every society
uses gender and age genders (Lorber 25). The general public burst out when they see a young
boys when they play with feminine toys because they judge the boys as homosexual. Sex,
doesnt come into play again until puberty, but that time sexual feelings and desires and practices
have been by gendered norms and expectation (Lorber 20). Lorber suggests that many young
children, like boys do not understand what they they, so therefor when the boys play with dolls
the boys assume you can play because it is a toy. Therefore many parents get toys for the gender
and do not realize children play was around them. Making judgments about a person's identity

can have many qualities for mistakenly a person gender.
Not only there is only two types of gender female and male, there is a third gender that
society deals with because we have the right to be who we are. As this is new for everyone many
homosexuals have a box to check off when they are voting, doctors appoint, and etc. because
there is a transformation role that are citizens can make homosexuals welcome in our society.
Many homosexuals can identify themselves because there is only to options to choice. Around
the world, homosexual kids have a hard time changing in locker rooms because they fear that
they will get beat up from other classmates. One fellow student had to change in the teachers
restroom to change and to be protected, but he always got mad because he was a boy but the only
thing different from the rest of the boys was he was gay. Many public places are adding neutral
restroom that every person can feel safe to use the restroom that they do not get criticized of
other peoples opinions. Many campuses- including Harvard, Penn and Michigan- now offer
gender neutral housing and more unisex bathrooms to accommodate students who dont fall
neatly into male and female categories (Kantrowitz and Wingert 70). Gender is growing and we
are learning that theirs no more two genders and heterosexual is a new identity in our world and
restrooms are having a new makeover that every person can be okay to go to the restroom.
In my life experience, I definitely see difference of gender role in the household and my
community because my mom treats my sibling different from me, or not comparing with my
brother my sister or vice versus my brother. My mom says that she treats us the same, but
growing up I see the differences because we are girls so my sister and I need to say home clean
and make dinner but my brother he just plays sports and relax. My mom always told my sister
and I that guys only play sports and they get the income of the family, so I always push your
brother. This makes me mad because she only focuses on him and does not realize that I am the

first daughter and education is important to me. She never asks me how school is going or if I
need help with anything and she expect me to know and figure out things on my own. On the
other hand, my mom will drop anything for my brother, for example, she will get off work to get
lunch for my brother and work days to see his far away sports game. As for my she did not get
out of work for me when I had volleyball tournaments. Addition, my mom not only, but my
brother a car, she bought three cars in a yet because he really wants it one and she never bought
me a car even though I have a license and he does not. Overall, I understand why many people
make assumptions of people judgments because parents are afraid of embarrassment of what
their children are.
This made me realize that my mom is teaching us that men have a higher chance getting
more money then women because men have assertive jobs but this open my eyes that women are
increasingly defining that man are not the only ones in the world and there is not two gender, we
just have to find who we are and not let the general public comments define who are. Overall,
gender is mistakenly judge everyday and every person by their physical appearance, ability to act
feminine or masculine. Every day people struggle to fit it my having people judging and people
not understanding who you are. Society assume that if you are a woman you do feminine things
and if you are a man you do things.
