Missouri Pre-Service Teacher Assessment (MoPTA)

Lesson Plan Format

1. Standards/Quality Indicators/Skills
Missouri and national standards, quality indicators, and skills addressed by this lesson

2. Learning Objectives (Goals) and Outcomes

The lessons objectives (goals) and learning outcomes appropriate for meeting curricular and student needs
To better understand what someone their age went through in such a tough time.
3. Assessment (type[s] of assessment used throughout the lesson)
Assessment(s) before, during, and after the lesson
A 15 question vocabulary quiz with word bank; an AR opportunity with the book; 10 question spelling test
incorporating the vocabulary words; as well as a unit test over acquired knowledge of the book and the
history it carries.
4. Lesson Structure and Procedures Sequence of events of the lesson elements.
(The before, during, and after the lesson, e.g., Engagement/Opening, Procedures, Guided Practice,
Conclusion)
When introducing the lesson the class will be introduced to the story The Diary of Anne Frank. This is the
book we will read as a class that they will also have the opportunity to AR test on at the end of the unit. We
will start the week and the lessons with a discussion to see if anyone knows or has heard of the story we are
about to read. Along with reading at least 2/3 chapters a day the students will have opportunities afterwards
to work on their group projects as well as worksheets for vocabulary and spelling for the week.

5. Instructional Strategies
Teacher approach to helping students achieve the learning objectives (goals) and meet their needs
This lesson is all about fun while learning. It is more of a hands on project to get the students
minds going. There will be class-wide discussions as well as small group. With these discussions
I hope that the students will gain a better understanding of the lesson as a whole.

6. Learning Activities
Opportunities provided for students to develop knowledge and skills of the learning objectives (goals)
My goals this week are for the students to know what someone means when they talk about the
Holocaust, or what one of the great causes of World War Two were. I want them to be able to
engage in knowledgeable discussions in and outside of the classroom with peers and with
elders.

7. Resources and Materials

List of materials used in the planning of and during the instruction of the lesson
Laptops, iPad, Smart Board, White Boards, Anne Frank Books

8. Technology
Instructional and/or assistive technology incorporated into the lesson to enhance instruction and student
learning
Use of the smart-board with powerpoint; use of classroom iPads for Holocaust project

9. Differentiation/Accommodations/Modifications/Increase in Rigor
To help meet the needs of all learners, learning differences, cultural and language differences, etc.

Students with learning needs will still participate in classroom discussions to help increase their knowledge as
well. Their worksheets will be modified according to their accommodations as well as their ability to read
aloud or not. If needed they will sit with another student to be able to follow along better with the story.

10. Classroom Management

Strategies consistent with the learning needs of the lesson that also meet student behavior needs to help
keep students on task and actively engaged
Keeping the students actively engaged by breaking up reading and discussions. By alternating the two
student will have the chance to get their jitters out in a class wide discussion on what we have just read in
this weeks story.

11. Extensions
Activities for early finishers that extend students understanding of and thinking about the learning
objectives (goals) by applying their new knowledge in a different way
Early finishers will have the opportunity to use one of the many classroom laptops or iPads to play
educational quizzing games on their knowledge of what we have learned so far.

12. Follow-up to Todays Lesson

Quick activity for review or building on todays learning that will deepen student understanding and
interconnect concepts (may be incorporated tomorrow or throughout the unit)
Field trip to Holocaust Museum in two weeks.
