ACTION PLAN

To contribute to the goal of preparing reflective practitioners, student teachers will write an Action Plan at the end of first, second, and third field
experience with input from their cooperating teacher and/or the University supervisor. The Action Plan synthesizes each field experiences
evaluation, links each field experience to the next, establishes goals for improvement, and forms an agenda for discussion between the student
teacher, the cooperating teacher and University supervisor at the beginning of the subsequent field experience. For First Field Experience only
(excluding Physical Education students), the Action Plan will be completed during the co-requisite Professional Seminar course.

Name: Sophie Bowie

Student Number: 260583035

B.Ed. Program: Kindergarten and Elementary Education

Field Experience: 1st 2nd

3rd

I have shown thorough to advanced development in the following Professional Competencies developed
during this field experience:
Competency 2: I always make sure to communicate properly and appropriately in the English language.
Competency 3: I have largely improved my lesson plans and have even planned units that last for a month
or longer, thus building teaching activities that correspond to a long-term plan.
Competency 4: I have become aware of when a student truly needs help, and when a student simply does
not want to do the work. This has allowed me to properly guide students with their learning tasks.
Competency 5: In particular, formatively evaluating students, in addition to fairly summatively assessing
them, and making sure to provide feedback to them for each and every evaluation.
Competency 8: I have made great use of the SMART Board and Chromebooks with the students, and the
use of this technology has both fascinated and helped them to achieve their learning objectives.
Competency 9: Sitting in on parent-teacher interviews has allowed me to form a relationship with students
parents.
Competency 10: I have made an effort to communicate with other staff members as to how we can work
together cohesively for our students, and develop units that go hand in hand.
Competency 11: I have attended a few workshops, my favourite being one on Google Classroom, in order to
aid in my professional development.
Competency 12: I always act in an ethical and responsible manner when it comes to interacting with other
staff members, parents, and students.
I would like to improve my skills in the following Professional Competencies developed during this field
experience:
Competency 1: In particular, understanding the different cultures of the students in my class and making
sure to incorporate any important holidays into the curriculum and not focus solely on Christian holidays.
Competency 6: Although the students are not overly disruptive, I would like to improve on my classroom
management skills. Things will happen behind my back when I am writing on the board or helping a student
individually, and I thus need to make sure that I am aware of what is going on in the classroom at all times.
Competency 7: I would like to, in the future, keep students IEPs in mind more when planning and
executing lessons.
I will make use of the following strategies for improvement:
- Getting to know my students cultures and incorporating those cultures into the classroom.
- Learning new classroom management strategies that will help me to know what is going on in every
area of the classroom at all times.
- Becoming more familiar with students IEPs and taking those modifications and/or adaptations into
account when planning and executing lessons.
