TERM THREE OVERVIEW


Hello 5th Grade Visual Arts! We will be focusing on exploration of personal worlds in the third term. This
term will be in collaboration with language arts. Students will think of their own world, build them and write
about them. Students will learn about the design process, go through the construction process and create
appropriate essays that support their world. Students will be making idea proposals, conducting
appropriate research, create advertisements for their worlds and reflecting on their designs.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Sketchbook: Students will be using a sketchbook for the whole year. Students will have to bring their
sketchbook to every class. Failure to do so will affect their grade.

The class website will be an important resource for the students. It will include important documents and
due dates.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
In the classroom, students will respect themselves, their peers, and the classroom space. When students
are in the classroom students will only use english in the classroom. When students fail to use english in
the classroom, points from their participation grade will be deducted. Students will be expected to clean up
after themselves everyday. Students will be expected to put away their artwork, put back materials used,
clean tables, and pushed in chairs. All cell-phone and media devices must be turned off and out of sight
during the class. If a media device is used in the classroom, points will be deducted from the students
participation grade and will have their media device confiscated.

ASSESSMENT
Projects: 35%
Sketchbook(Research): 25%
Sketchbooks will be checked randomly throughout the term, and collected at the end of
the term.
Classroom Contribution (Work and Cleaning Habits): 20 %
Portfolio: 10%
Participation: 10%

ATTENDANCE (Check Handout)


All students are required to attend all classes and be on time. Students will have an allowance of 3 excused
absences. An excused absence is an absence with a reasonable cause. Examples for an excused absence
might include: illness or hospitalization, family illness or death, a religious holiday. Students will have to
have a doctors note, or a note from the guardian explaining the students absence. After 3 unexcused
absences, students grade will be deducted a letter grade, and they will have to schedule a meeting with
their teacher. It will be the students responsibility to schedule a meeting with the teacher. If students have
2 or more unexcused absences they will not be able to pass the class. Tardiness will count as half an
absence, and after 10 minutes the tardy will be changed into an unexcused absence.
When students are late or have an absence, it will be the students responsibility for completing any
in-class work and/or homework. Students must email, or talk to the teacher before their return to class.

LATE POLICY
Students are expected to complete all assignments by the due date. Any work that is not turned in by the
due date will be considered late. Late work will receive half credit on the next day, and will not be accepted
after 2 days. Missing work will receive no credit. If there is a reasonable excuse why the student cannot
have their work completed in time, it will be the students responsibility to contact Ms. Kim and make
arrangements. Students will have to contact the teacher 1 week in advance for an extension.
