Qualifications:
Masters degree from an accredited college/university.
Valid Kansas Speech-Language Pathology License
Other alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Purpose and Objectives of the Position:
A speech/language pathologist helps to eliminate speech and language impediments that interfere with the
individual student's ability to derive benefit from the district's educational program.
Performance responsibilities:
Conduct an assessment and diagnosis of speech voice, fluency and language delays or
disorders.
Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech/language students.
Assist teachers and parents in developing an appropriate individual education plan for
?students.
Ensure that Kansas State Board of Education guidelines for Special Education are met.
Participate in the screening, pre-assessment, identification, placement, follow-up and ?reviews
of students.
Participate in the referral of students to other appropriate agencies as appropriate.
Collaborates with school staff to implement therapy through inclusion and consultation.
Support educational improvement through legislative knowledge and involvement in ?building
and district activities.
Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
Assist teachers in the development and implementation of curriculum modifications and
appropriate classroom strategies.
Maintain an inventory of materials, tests and supplies.
Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
Serve as a resource to staff members and parents in the development of a balanced program for
communication.?
Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified
speech and language delays/disorders.
Participate in development of goals and strategies for educational improvement.
Provide any assigned paraprofessional with appropriate direction, supervision, and evaluation.
Ensure that all activities conform to state and district guidelines.
Ensure that all activities adhere to the professional standards.
Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community. Work effectively
with community organizations and outside agencies.

Other Duties
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor and in accordance with USD 453 Board of
Education policies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others, including the ability to communicate
effectively with a broad number of audiences.
Ability to manage job responsibilities and to meet the established district outcomes.
Ability to use necessary district-identified computer hardware and software, and other districtprovided technology.
Ability to physically adapt to the compressed time schedule of a school day and year.

Terms of Employment: Teacher Contract
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the USD 453 Board
of Educations policy on Evaluation of Personnel.
