Interview

The interview is with Miss Kefah Alshehi, a graduate of

Sharjah Womens College, and the winner of Sheikh
Hamdan Award for Distinguished Academic Performance.
She is a teacher in Afra Bint Obaid School with experience
that is not less than six years. This session happened
between Aysha Ahmad and her in Afras school at break
time on 13th of October 2015.
The interview was about her journey with teaching
children in the school.
Today I am going to take a little bit of your time to ask you
some questions briefly about your successful journey with
Education. The first question is:
1- What grades are you teaching this year?
Now I am teaching grade three and five, but I passed on all primary grades.
2- What qualities do you have that make you a good teacher?
I graduated from Sharjah Womens College with experience of at least six
years in many local schools and a trainer in many other schools. I got more
than ten certificates that have been given to me due to my professional
work in teaching; integrate latest technical method in teaching.
3- What motivates you to teach? Is it your major or love working
with the children?
My teacher inspired me to teach, she was a good model to follow. Miss
Kefah was silent for a second before adding I love teaching children and
educating them to reach the higher level of learning to service their
country.
4- How do you make your subject interesting to an uninterested
classroom?
Give less amount of lesson, come up with different ways to say the same
things over and over again to make sure that the kids grasp what youre
teaching them. I try to get the students attention all the time to make them
2

interested and follow me. And I also try to keep them engaged during the
lesson.
5- What kind of strategy do you make during the lesson if theres
indisciplined children?
They are some ideas that I did in my class: Eye contact strategy, off-on the
lights, point system, and silent strategy.
6- What is your view regarding learning through plays?
I agree with because it is the best way to engage the children in making
them have fun, be interested and learn at the same time.
7- Do you think changing national curriculum for this year is a good
idea? If not tell the reason.
I trust and believe that everything the ministry did is for the best because
their mission is for the students benefit. The system of MAG was perfect
because it helped many students to learn the second language easily, but
the problem now is how to teach math and science with Arabic. Much
confusion will come to the child through changing I wishes educators found a
solution for that.
8- Give me your idea about given the child homework? Do you
decide that child does all of his work in the class or home?
Giving homework is a nice method that can help parents to assess their
children level. In real I decide that all of the work children should be finished
in school because that help teacher to evaluate the child and to guide him
correctly. Also, that makes a child more independent, responsible for doing
homework without giving it to his father, or sister. If a child didnt do his
homework, that would be a big error for child hinders learning.
Lets move and talk about teacher relationships.
9- Miss kefah, how do you make a strong relationship with the
students?
The teacher should make the child feel safe, comfortable, and have value in
the class by being warm not shouting in the class, accessible, respecting,

enthusiastic and caring. Also discover child talents and improve it. Sharing
important events with the child for instance; winning in computation.

10-

Do you think a strong relationship with parents is necessary?

I think it is very important because parents can help the teacher to

understand the child emotion and needs then guiding him. Also, parents will
be cognizant of childs level, so they give them extra support.

11- How do you manage between teacher talking and students

talking during the lesson, especially when your students talking
English for the second language?
Look Aysha a lot of hands-on activities, as a result, less amount of teacher
talking. Integrate games and video, objects inside the classroom that can
support the child and engage him to talk.
12-

What elements can make your lesson successfully?

You have to plan correctly for your lesson plan before, include many
activities, game, video, picture, and deliver the lesson for different level of
students easily.
13-

If there any reasons that can make you stop teaching?

Nothing can stop me from teaching except one thing that is my family. I try
to manage my time between the school and home.
Thank you, Miss Kefah for giving me your time, and I hoped you
enjoy the interview with me.
