a) Reflect: Think about all of your course RRJs, Spare Parts speaker events, free writes,
and/or Literature Circle notes. Discuss how doing the RRJ assignment influenced how you
read or thought about the book. Name some characters from Spare Parts who made you
think about your story. Discuss specifically how thinking about those characters has
influenced your decisions, actions, values, or motivation for attending college. Develop this
reflection with specific examples.
Joshua Davis novel Spare Parts, is a great exemplifier as to why education is necessary.
Preparing ourselves for an in-depth research behind Davis book, required cognitive thinking and
a great deal of communication. From internal thoughts by reading and writing RRJs to watching
Davis himself present a speech during the speakers eventthe unit itself opened the doors of
understanding and accepting. Not only did the unit topic change my beliefs, however, these
thoughts gravitated towards my presence in college and how school is an important factor of my
life. For example, in the text, two ethnic teenagers unknowingly grabbed lunch to be accused of
illegal citizenship therefore making them unqualified to be living in the U.S. Within days, one
teenager was deported with family and taken back to their hometowna place where majority of
families flee in order to provide themselves happiness in a better life. Situations like these
benedict my gratuity to bearing freedom. Also in Spare Parts, the four boys essentially only had
schoolwithout it, their current position could suppress gang violence behavior. These
following occurrences are a few of the overall picture as to why destructive behavior tolls over
immigrants based off racism and limited opportunities. Activities like RRJs and Speaker Series
centered great attention on the topic of immigration and enabled students like myself to have an
opinion based off commutative strategies with other students. These contributions overall led me

to believe my value as a person with an educated degree. School is extremely important in
carrying out my persona throughout the work force, as well as understanding life as a whole.

b) Reflect Beyond College One: Think about your experiences reading in all of your other
classes this semester. How has your reading changed since entering college? What
strategies have you developed for managing reading assignments? What is something that
you read that was difficult for you, what resources did you use to make sense of it? How do
you feel like an insider in reading for college how do you still feel like an outsider? What
would you like to do about that?
Abruptly coming to an end of the first semester of college is a relief, to say the least. In
addition, I am proud of the experiences and lessons I overcame that contribute to my overall goal
becoming a successful college student. My personal belief of a successful college student
defines motivational factors that push one into achieving better beyond goals. Majority of these
lessons and experiences took place in my College 1 course; where we applied the topic of
controversy among immigration into the blessing of educational privilege. Throughout College 1,
I learned cognitive thinking strategies and applied this tactic towards reading and writing. With
the ability to cognitively read and write, I noticed greater results through both my reading and
writing technique. In addition, scholarly article web searching is an even greater skill that every
college student should construe among research projects. Each assignment I am assigned, I use
these resources to help puzzle together my research databases and writing formatgiving me an
insider on special techniques that help advance my thoughts onto a better format. In conclusion, I
want to carryout these techniques and apply them to future assignments as well as job-related
work-studies to benefit my reading and writing abilities.
