Field Reflection
Planning and Preparation
While in the field Thursday, I saw a few things that would be
considered planning and preparation. Mrs. Irene created an interactive
math lesson plan with the students using the smart board. The
students worked on worksheets from their math books as a group with
Mrs. Irene. Usually, the students have different groups in math, but
because they are learning new material in math, the teacher thought it
would be best to start them all out together. They also had a lesson on
the body parts of a butterfly. Mrs. Irene used a packet and the smart
board to help the students learn where each body part on the butterfly
is, and had the students compare the butterfly to themselves. In order
to know that she needed to teach her students this material, Mrs. Irene
looked at her curriculum and decided upon the best approach in
teaching the lessons. Mrs. Irene also gave her class a math preassessment in order to help her plan her next math lesson.
Classroom Environment
On Thursday, the class used what they call office dividers these
are boards that go up around their desks while they take tests or
quizzes. On Thursday, some students completed a math quiz and then
they all completed a math pre- assessment with their office dividers up
around their desks. The student who was picked as the student to

distribute supplies for that week was the one who passed out the office
dividers to each student. When the students all had their math pre
tests, office dividers, and their pencils, they put their pencils up in the
air to show they were ready and kept them there until everyone was
ready for the assessment. When the students became out of hand,
Mrs. Irene counted backwards from three and the students settled
down.
Instruction
During Mrs. Irenes lessons, she continuously asked for student
help in answering questions. She also discussed with the students after
they found an answer to each question. She was very flexible in her
teaching, also letting another teacher teach alongside her for math.
The students also had a math pre-test.
Professional Responsibility
Mrs. Irene worked with two other professionals in her classroom
on Thursday. One professional, is always in the classroom and assists
when the students need help, and the other professional was the
teacher that assists with students who need extra help in math.
Because all of the students were in a group for math instead of being
divided into their usual groups, both teachers taught the math lesson
together using different strategies. One student, Henry, had a
meltdown during the math pre-assessment and Mrs. Irene worked
with another professional to help calm him down and explain to him

that the work he was completing wasnt for a grade, but was to help
him with learning the lesson in the future.
My participation in the classroom
On Thursday, the students have library, I assisted a few students
in finding what books they wanted to read for the week and
encouraged students while they worked on their projects. Because the
students took assessments in their classroom, I walked around and
made sure everyone was following what Mrs. Irene was instructing him
or her to do. I assisted students during the group math lesson who
were falling behind, and made sure everyone stayed on the same page
as Mrs. Irene while she taught the lesson. I also helped hand supplies
out to the class.
