This lesson plan demonstrates my development in Professional

Competencies 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10. At the end of grade 8, students

are required to write a literature response to a text. To begin preparing
students for this exam, I decided to create a mock exam for the students.
Before introducing this mini-unit on response writing, I had the students
review some notes about structures and features. Additionally, I reviewed
with students some of the components of response writing (PC 1).
Afterwards, I informed the students that this mock exam will be a simulation
of what they will be experiencing at the end of the year. Many elements will
be the same. These elements include silence when writing the exam, the
peer discussion process, the rough draft writing process, and the evaluation
process (PC 4 and 6). I informed the students that I will be co-evaluating
their responses with my cooperating teacher. We will both read the response,
and then agree to a grade for the students work (PC 5 and 10). Finally, I
informed the student that they will be allowed to produce their good copies
on the computer, allowing students who have writing difficulties to produce
their good copies with fewer obstacles (PC 7 and 8). Finally, I provided
students with plenty of feedback to improve each of their writing for the
actual exam. Something I can do to improve this lesson is to add in a followup lesson. My CT provided me the idea of having students evaluate a piece
of writing. This process would allow the students to understand the
evaluation process to a greater level of detail and allow them to understand
how they will be graded in the future.
