CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Classroom Organization:
Students, and the teacher, will be given the opportunity to jot down any ideas on what
classroom expectations they would like to see implemented in our class. As a class we will
discuss and group ideas and then decide upon the most important expectations that will work in
our classroom.
I feel that if the students have a voice in these expectations, they will be more invested
and therefore more inclined to follow the guidelines.

Class Rules/General Expectations:

1. Come prepared!
a. Bring all supplies needed
b. Get a drink and bathroom break before you come
2. Be productive, not a distraction
3. Be respectful to everyone around you

Key Procedures:
1. Attention-Getting Procedure:
a. The teacher will raise one hand and in a normal speaking volume say, signal
please. Those who notice are to stop talking and make the people around them
aware that I am waiting. This should only take 5 10 seconds to bring the entire
classs attention back to the teacher.
b. In a high-volume activity, the teacher will clap twice to get the attention of the
class.
2. Start-of-Class Procedure:
a. At the bell the teacher will quickly run through the daily agenda and ensure all
phones have been put in the teachers possession.
3. End-of-Class Procedure:
a. Quick tidy of the desk-area and the return of all phones.

4. Question-Answering Procedure:
a. Students are welcome to ask questions as long as they have raised their hand
and are respectful.
b. Since students are sitting in groups of four, they are encouraged to quietly ask
one of their group peers for help at any time.

5. Safety Procedures:
a. Fire evacuation procedures were discussed on the first day of school. Posted at
the door is the evacuation route. The teacher will take roll call once at the muster
point.
b. Lock-down procedures will be practiced several times throughout the semester.
The teacher is to close and lock the door, cover all windows, turn out the lights,
and move all occupants of the room to sit by a wall that cannot be seen through
the small window on the door and be very quiet. The teacher will be in contact
with the office via cell phone/e-mail if needed. The door will not be opened for
any reason until the all clear signal is given over the intercom.
6. Other Procedures:
a. Lates: - Students have approximately 3 min to get from one class to the next.
After 2 lates, students are invited to Friday School to think about how they can
become more punctual. This is a school-wide initiative.
b. Absence: The teacher will tack any notes or homework to the bulletin board
behind her desk for students to pick up upon their arrival.
c. Electronic Devices: As a school, it has been decided that all electronic devices
are to turned into the teacher for the duration of the class period. The teacher
may hand them out for use during a lesson if she so chooses.
d. Homework: The teacher will give out homework at her discretion. Students have
the opportunity to come back to my classroom during the Tutorial period to get
caught up or for extra help. If 2 or more assignments are missing at the end of
the week, the student is invited to Friday School to get caught up. This Friday
School is a school-wide initiative.

Strategies for Responding to Misbehaviour:

1. Start small proximity often stops the behavior.
2. Saying the name of the child misbehaving and asking them to please stop is often
enough. This teacher will ask twice before moving on to the next step.
3. Ask the misbehaving student to step out in the hall to discuss the behavior. Get the other
students on a task before leaving the room.
4. Find out if there is an underlying issue causing the behavior. Always tell the student they
are needed and welcome in the class, but that all must follow our classroom expectations.

5. Walk the student to the office or call the office to come retrieve the student. Worst case
scenario.

CLASSROOM LEADERSHIP
Establishing Positive Relationships:
-

Consistency is a main element in positive teacher/student relationships.

Participation in many extra-curricular events will give the students and me the
opportunity to get to know one another out side of the classroom.
No one is allowed to laugh at a student question or confusion.
Group seating is implemented to support teambuilding and relationships between the
students.
Homework and information about learning will be posted daily on the school website
for parents to stay informed.
Attending Meet the Teacher night gives parents/guardians the opportunity to get to
know me, and me them, and to ask any questions they may have .
