Name of Lesson Plan: The Whole Story
Grade 3 Individual Assignment
Subject: English Language Arts
Standards:

6.0 Students write with a clear focus and logical development, evaluating, revising, and
editing for organization, style, tone, and word choice.
8.0 Students listen to and evaluate oral communications for content, style, speakers
purpose, and audience appropriateness.

d. recall the main idea of text while reading

Objective: Students will be able to listen to the story to find key meanings and message. The
answers to the questions will demonstrate proper use of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. The
evaluation will demonstrate development of literary criticism.
Materials: 20 Copies of The Whole Story, Computer, Projector and White Screen
Procedures:
Hand out 1 copy of The Whole Story to each student.
Go over the sections of the paper. The first section is to be completed during the story;
the two subsequent sections are to be completed after the video.

Instruct the class to use the next 45 minutes to answer the remaining questions.
Collect the papers.
15 minutes of oral discussion of the story. Explore responses to the storys themes of
disability, family traditions, bullying, self-esteem, and fitting-in.

Grading:
50 Points Possible

Yeager 2
45-50 Answers in first section are correct. Answers in the second section demonstrate
comprehension of storys content and themes. Answers use proper grammar, spelling, and
punctuation. Answers have depth and are thoughtfully composed and coherent.
35-44 Two or more answers in the first section are correct. In the second section, basic
understanding of the story and themes are demonstrated. Answers are complete and thoughtful. A
few errors were made in grammar, spelling, or punctuation.
30-34 One or more answers in the first section are correct. Answers in second section
demonstrate basic knowledge of content with no exploration of theme. A few errors were made
in grammar, spelling, or punctuation.
0-29 Multiple errors were made in grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Answers are incomplete
or missing. No demonstrated knowledge of themes.
