Minutes
Because this game can be used as a warm up
and it can be used as a fun extra release of
energy for students to get out of their systems
before learning. (Maybe after recess)
It can also be used as a break to get students
moving from sitting in class all afternoon but with
learning incorporated into it or a fun introduction
into nutrition.
Essentially its a game students can get right into
without a warm up.

ingredients that pertain to your food group in
a game called Food Group Blitz!!
Explain learnable piece
Learnable Piece:
Today you will be learning about what types
of foods go with each food group!
By the end of this game you will need to give
me at least one example of a food that
pertains to each of the specific food groups,
SO keep that in mind as you are playing!
(Wheat, meats, dairy, fruits and vegetables)
Presentation of New Material/Directions:
Again the game is called Food Group Blitz
and this is how you play!
There is one chef and he or she will be
standing in the middle of the court (middle of
space provided)
The chefs objective is to call out different
types of foods and to have the food groups
that pertain to the type of food run across the
gym. As they run across the chef will try and
tag those people with two fingers for
ingredients in his or her secret dish.
Give example: If I am the chef and I call out
milk, the people assigned to the food group
dairy will be the ones running across to the
other side of the cones.
If the chef tags you before you pass the
cones, you become the chefs assistant and
help him or her catch other food groups.
The last person standing wins!
SAFETY
Make sure to watch where you are going! Do
not run into each other!
If you are the chef or become the chefs
assistants gently tag with two fingers on the
shoulder!
CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING
If the chef calls out strawberries which food
group is going to cross?
What happens if the chef tags you?
How many fingers do you use to tag?
Thumbs up if you understand?
Any questions?
Thank you all for being such good listeners!
